If you look at it economically Kazakhstan is the only successful story of the 15 ex-soviet nations. The rest can be labelled as failed states including Russia. Where as Kazakhstan stands out and succeeds.

A prosperous nation and that has isolated itself from the world.

Every ex-Soviet state is successful given it's context.

Kazakhstan just like Russia is just lucky to have oil and gas without those they would be broke like other ex Soviet and Eastern Bloc states tho Russia/Ukraine have one advantage large weapons complexes and industry
Agreed. But have a look at Afghanistan. Stand on the Afghan-Tajik side of Amu Darya then walk across the bridge to Tajikistan. Then compare. Then compare Dushanbe to any Pakistani city and you will see my point.

And I know the numbers. But numbers ain't everything.

just lucky to have
Most ex-Soviet states are lucky to have literate populations with decent sized scientific pool. Where we got mullahs and their crazed disciples they have scientists and engineers.

This is what poverty stricken Tajik capital of Dushanbe looks like. Cannot compare to Delhi, Lahore or Dhaka can it? Nodoubt this is better part of it but you get the picture.

And it's a small City and capital of country.
I know. But I was not taking about size. But about developent, poverty and human living standard.

beautiful due to mountains
We have more mountains, Compare Gilgit. Katamandu in Nepal. or even Srinagar in Kashmir. They are dirty, unkept etc whereas Dushanbe is very clean, tidy developed and living standard visibly is better.

Bizzare thing is Dushanbe is Tajik city and only few miles from Tajik Afghanistan, It;s not that far from Peshawar. Maybe like Birmingham, Coventry and London distances. But look at the differance. They belong to another century.

Of course Tajikstan is better than Afghanistan no question which is why I think the break up of the USSR was huge bloody mistake contrary to a lot so called Islamists on read up here most Central Asians voted overwhelmingly to preserve the Union in 1991 and them seeing Afghanistan and Pakistan makes them shudder the thought of becoming like them having met many of them they are the biggest Russophiles out there

You are correct. It is civilization. Soviet time might be bad from some aspects (which I do not believe Western propaganda 100%. In Vietnam we could only see the good side of the Soviet Union), but it brought civilization to backward countries. If there was no Soviet period, countries like Tajikistan might take around 100 - 200 more years to get to current development level, if ever. Same to Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Armenia,...

One of the very bad side of many "democracies" was, and is, that their governments have been reluctant to control population growth, because it violates, as per Western definition, human right, and naively wait for population growth rate to go down automatically when countries get richer. But with high population growth, like in India or Sub-Saharan Africa, they may never get richer, let alone rich. I see many countries of today are worse off than in 1980s, even with much more high-rise buildings, mobile phones and cars, and even with higher nominal GDP per capita in US$.

I know the fertility rate in most third world, poor countries are going down, but very slow indeed. With that current rate, most of them will be in unbearable condition of over-population, before it can get any better.

Life is hard but not really terribly bad, at least they seem to have a life.
Your Chinese right? I think you don't quite understand why Pakistan is lagging behind. The reason is Pakistan is a reactionary society. We have been infected with a disease far more lethal then COVID-19.

This disease is reactive to progress. Since progress was monopolised by the west, most of this reaction is pointed against the west. But this reaction is not political like perhaps China has to the west. But more do the recipe that enabled western progress.

How does this kmanifest itself? Chinese will copy with both arms western ideas, ways and recipes that undline it success. Pakistani's and large parts of Muslim world [excluding Turkey/Iran] react and do struggle to accept that recipe. Terms like 'westoxified' are used as pejoratives for any person suggesting progressive ideas. This even applies, indeed I would say even strongly to those Pakistani's living inthe west. Many might have been nurtured in the west but their hatred against it's recipe progress is even harsher. It often is articulated in racist language.

At heart it is cowardice and defeatism against western progress. Instead of grabbing the bull by it's horns and doing better then the west or beating it at it's own game like China has our people curl back and begin to hide in a imaginary utopian past.

Most of ex-Soviet Muslim states do not display this character and I think that is a positive factor. They are not hostage to the medieval ignorant past.

Very true. But I see small incremental changes happening within the Pakistani community. A lot of our youngsters are moving away from retarded low IQ Mullahism and embracing education.

Absolutely fantastic post. One of the best I have read on PDF recently. In my previous post I was about to include Vietnam along with China. Your society is perfect example to contrast with Pakistan.

You were raped by France. Carpet bombed by USA. Americans killed millions of you. Yet. Yet you show no animus against European [read white people]. Your political philiosophy is built on and informed by writings of a German [Marx], your script is Roman and you have coped everything from Europe as long as it helped your nation to progress. And progress you have made.

In Pakistan we worship backwardness under the banner of tradition/Islam. Whereas we despise recipe for progress because we choose to call it 'western' or 'gora' [read white]. You see the result.

it brought civilization to backward countries
100 - 200 more years to get to current development level
1000 out of 100.
