The time has come for the Iraqi people and its government to embrace the opportunity for a progressive and prosperous future. It is time for the Iraqi people to hold on to their achievements and aim for a future free of dictatorship, and tyranny. The entire world is anxiously waiting to witness the Iraqi people work through their differences so they can build their nation, strive for progress and peace. We have spent almost 8 years in Iraq, and alongside the Iraqi security forces fought hardships and challenges in order to give the Iraqi people the freedom which they, and the entire human race, deserves. Now it is up to the Iraqi people to show the world what a democratic state, run by their choice, can achieve for them.

Our withdrawal from Iraq should also put to silence the baseless allegations that have been launched at our motives since the beginning of this war. The allegations that we are in Iraq to steal their resources, their oil, that we are invaders and want to occupy Iraq and build our permanent bases. Disappointment knocks on the door of those conspiracy theorists whose allegations will once again be proved wrong. In the past, we have answered those conspiracy theorists by questioning them, “What will happen to your allegations when you see us withdrawing from the region without the oil and without permanent bases?”

As our president has said, “At the end of this year, America’s military operation in Iraq will be over. We will have a normal relationship with a sovereign nation that is a member of the community of nations. That equal partnership will be strengthened by our support for Iraq – for its government and for its security forces, for its people and for their aspirations.”

How is that theft? Oil production are controlled by OPEC, a cartel that would be illegal in most countries. Prices are dictated by market forces, which are dependent upon production. So how is that theft?

James Paul suggested the following in the Global Policy Forum this past December:

"(Assuming) the level of Iraqi reserves at 250 billion barrels and recovery rates at 50% (both very conservative estimates). Under those conditions, recoverable Iraqi oil would be worth altogether about $3.125 trillion. Assuming production costs of $1.50 a barrel (a high-end figure), total costs would be $188 billion, leaving a balance of $2.937 trillion as the difference between costs and sales revenues. Assuming a 50/50 split with the government (arab patriots like gadaffi would only give 7% to oil cos european and american companies will of course renegotiate their libya deals easy aint it) and further assuming a production period of 50 years, the company profits per year would run to $29 billion. That huge sum is two-thirds of the $44 billion total profits earned by the world’s five major oil companies combined in 2001. If higher assumptions are used, annual profits might soar to as much as $50 billion per year."

The american oil companies are not oblivious to this bonanza. The FT reported meetings between BP Shell and Downing Street and Whitehall functionaries. Senior figures in the ramshackle exile Iraqi National Congress opposition have been openly consorting with American oil companies expressly promising to hand postwar production exclusively to them. Oh and Western countries decide what tax to charge so they share the money between state and private people

Of course Gambit you wouldnt know that Bush family, saudi Royal family and all the other crooks are taking the mick would you?

All of this is nonsense. Profits from business transactions are not theft. Do you know the proper definition of theft? Or is it more likely you know what you are saying is false and must resort to expanding the definition of theft to its absurd?

What was the act? Profits are not acts. Exploiting opportunities are not crimes. Paying for a product based upon an agreed upon price is not a crime. The current Iraqi government decided to honor Saddam's promises to Russia and China and awarded them lucrative exploration contracts. Why do you not condemn them as thieves? Looks like that law degree is worthless on you.

Do you really believe Iraqi people are worse off living in freedom today? We agree that there was an intelligence failure, but then most intelligence agencies agreed with the conclusion that Saddam still possessed WMD capabilities (it was not just us).The intelligence may not have revealed WMDs, but it did unmask how much Saddam's people were ready to topple his regime. Today Iraq is free with a democratic government. Al-Qaeda was certainly successful in orchestrating large number of killings and utilizing the situation to their benefit. Most Iraqis were killed by Al-Qaeda operatives in the aftermath of Iraq's liberation, but today they are on path to recovery. We welcome any evidence which states otherwise. As promised by President Obama, our combat troops are already out of Iraq and soon the few trainers who are left will be leaving. Iraq faces some challenges, which we are confident Iraqis themselves will resolve, but this proud country now stands a better than even chance of emerging as a beacon of freedom and democracy in the Middle East and around the world.

Don't no about the other things, but I have met some Iraqi people recently, a doctor among them, and according to them, the whole country has been destroyed, the whole infrastructure has been destroyed, a means to a livelihood has been destroyed, and the youth of the country, which does go to school, does not know the rich history of Iraq, and they are blind to the real face of their country, and are instead being fed propaganda lies, and they have no patriotic spirit and passion for their country.

The persons I met also said that, the impression being created by the media that Iraq is now well after Saddam and is going towards prosperity is also wrong, the people are still as much poor, and downtrodden.
He gave the example of Pakistan, that the image by the media was that Pakistan is a war-torn country, and there are bombings and terrorism in every inch of the country, and that the foreigners believed that, but according to him , a Pakistani would be better able to tell the situation, which is not as grim as it may seem. Similar is the situation with Iraq. The picture is being portrayed as rosy, but the really is much too different.
