I'm all for information my friend. But I tend to stay away from theological discussions. And I have sadly against my will been exposed to more than my fair share of them right out her on PDF itself. Which I have always protested against. There are enough forums out there on the world wide web which do religion and only religion. One of the primary attractions of PDF for me was that it was a largely arreligious and secular forum. Why would I then on my own participate in what I do not like or approve of?

If you are a Muslim and do not kill, then he is also a Muslim who does kill. You say your religion does not exhort you to kill and that is the "correct" version, and the beardo fundo is hijacking your faith. The bearded fundo on the other hand keeps telling me that he is killing in the name of his faith, and that you are a heretic and in fact that's why he is killing you first. Only after he finishes with you is he going to move down the road and kill me.

Do I reallly want to (or need to) get into the middle between the two of you? No. You sort it out. For me you are both Muslims.

If you see the way the word has evolved in usage by the world, the world does make the distinction between Muslim and Islamist. More often than not. But the Islamist is still a Muslim.

No man. What does a beard have to do with it? A Muslim for a non-Muslim is one who says he is a Muslim. Everything else after that is assumed based on what we know about Islam which is based on what we have seen other Muslims behave and do and believe.

Very few non-Muslims would go beyond that. And it hods true for every faith. You do not learn about a faith from what its scriptures say. You learn about a faith from what its followers do. For you, that is the faith.

Its the internal matter of the followers to decide what the right or wrong of it is. How can we come in between?
