I can't speak a whole lot, due to my disconnection with Turkish politics. But from what I know, he has struggled a bit in the domestic scene lately and has been unable to keep up his promises, and he's unlikely to win the next election. Some people here feel he's not doing good on foreign relations, but then again, Turkish people consider most to be untrustworthy.
Personally, I do appreciate his comments on issues like Palestine which is an international issue. But then again, first things for anyone and any person is his and her Nation. Anything else comes after.

Lastly, I think we need to stop putting him forward as a leader of an imaginary Islamic World. His comments on international and humanitarian issues like Palestine are appreciable, and we should appreciate them coming from him as the President of Turkey, not as anyone else.
