Rear engined cars catching fire because of inadequate engine cooling is not unusual. The Nano’s engine is seated at the rear and like most rear engine cars, there are vents at the corner of the rear door which aid in cooling the engine to some extent. But this may not be enough under some hot conditions. Some Ignorosauruses here also have brains at the rear !!!

If these are Nano's from an early batch,then they haven't been added specialized tools that cover the Cat-con and also some fuses that prevent short-circuiting.
If these are newer cars,then most probably the overheating was the cause.
..........Some owners deliberately stage these in order to claim insurance too.
until the official investigative report is out,nothing will stop these haters from doing what they do best.

No other Indian car has spontaneously cought fire except TATA nano, which happens to be a rear engined car. A rear engined car is more likely to catch fire than a front engined car. Out of thousands of Nano's on the road, only few have cought fire.
