I visited Meenakshi temple in Madurai in 1999 , no one asked for a single dime

Now you need to pay three rupees

Good decision. This will help reduce crowds. It was getting unmanageable.

It may not improve the revenue stream, since fewer people will consider buying a ticket.

I have been there once, and while the Taj is beautiful, the overall experience was boring for me. Nothing much to do, around the place. I would rather watch a movie or theatre for that price.

Only Hindus can go into the inner sanctums to see the idol of Goddess Meenakshi and Lord Sundareshwarar. If you don't want to wait for up to three hours in the free lines, it's possible to pay extra for "special darshan" tickets. These tickets provide direct access to the idols and can be purchased inside the temple.

But shouldn't be limited to Taj . Revenue generated should be used to develop the area around all the historical landmarks .
