Well maintaining such buildings require some form of income...SO it makes sense to have entry tickets of some form....even if it is skip the queues....Even visiting the Vatican museum, gallery and chapel has tickets and expensive ones for guides and skip the queue....

Entry to temples is always free. But some temples have special entry fee if you want to avoid the line.

@Dubious Sir poor people do not go on leisure trips , and in the govt school these tours are still an alien concept ....so a person who can spent the money to travel to visit Taj Mahal can easily afford the hike ...although may be govt can get enough funds for hike to maintain the site properly

So Taj Mahal is not for the poor? I wasnt aware that a trip to the Taj Mahal was considered a luxury...I had seen many backpackers comment about trips to the Taj and didnt realize it is a luxury!

Two time food
Clean water
decent medical facilities
good and affordable education
smoke free kitchen
