Infected fluids probed over pregnancy deaths in India - CNN.com

Health authorities in India's Rajasthan state are investigating allegations that 13 pregnant women died after they were given infected intravenous (IV) fluids at a government hospital.

All the deaths were reported in Jodhpur city over the past 10 days.

Laboratory tests had confirmed that IV fluids supplied by a local company were "tainted", officials said.

A police case has been registered and an investigation has begun, they said.

"The women died after severe haemorrhaging and we believe the most likely cause might be an infection after they were administered tainted IV fluids," Umaid Hospital administrator Narendra told the BBC.

"During lab tests, we found three batches of glucose which were tainted. We have lodged a complaint with the police and strict action will be taken against the manufacturers," he said.

India accounts for the highest number of maternal deaths in the world with tens of thousands of women dying every year due to pregnancy-related problems.

Campaigners say most of the deaths are needless and could easily be prevented if more care and attention was paid to their treatment.

some people always see death, rape and destruction in india. is it because they search the net whole day for these kind of news or they r genuinely concerned abt india? i wonder why they cant look at thir own country where suicide bombings and terrorist strikes have become regular feature?

Then i get the answer, these news of rape and death in india give them solace that they r not worse off then their counterparts.

i also wonder if they had put that kind of effort in working towards betterment of their country, where will pakistan be. it will once again become the paradise on earth, the pearl of earth. But hey they dont want that, why wd they work for that. they r interested in seeing death and rape in india and not work towards their own country.

For whatever reasons he posted this article, its still a sad and alarming situation..so far 13 pregnant womens died! Dont know how many more, many of our government hospitals are in very pathetic situation(not all though.)..we should take drastic steps to improve the facilities..some months before in a news channel they showed how some of the government hospitals in Kerala stores medicines..they were kept along with trashes and unused objects..even many of the drugs needed to kept in cold storage also..we learn only after something wrong happens and that costs us. :(

When they got free from their weapon building kingdom then they may give some attention toward public health care.

Free drugs meant for govt hospitals mostly get sold in the open market by the hospital staff.Their was a sting operation done by the media showing how used syringes by hospitals are repackaged and again sold in market increasing the risk of HIV.

The same goes for you brother.:lol:
Pakistan's health sector is no better than India's.
The day you transfer all the aid you receive to improve the health conditions rather than matching india's weapon building, pakistan will become ahead of us in at least health sector. Right now pakistan is ahead of india only in terror sector. Pakistan is the world's leader in terror exports.:lol:
Better not troll next time or be ready to face the music.

Govt hospitals are bad in India...
Govt is doing possible works to lift the Govt hospital Quality

But Private hospitals are awesome...

This is sheer negligence. I hope there goes a good investigation behind this. the callousness towards women healthcare at times is very repulsive.
