Yeah, I was surprised when he said sylhet is not being developed but from what I see sylhet seems to be more developed than most of Dhaka

Yes Sylhet is seriously rich compared to rest of BD.

Main reasons are high number overseas Sylheti residents compared to Sylhet population, gas and oil industry, fisheries(Haors), tourism and tea gardens.

As a rough example of how developed Sylhet is, it has daily generation capacity of 2GW against 19GW for whole of BD. Let us assume that all power generated within a division is only delivered within it's borders.
This is 11% of generating capacity with a total population of 8% of BD's.

Yeah when I saw this pic I mistook this for china town or something. Where in rest of Bangladesh is the streets so neat?

Sylhet's wealth gives the division a lot of influence within BD.

I do think so, yes. And that is why the modern Sanghis are so supportive of the Vande Mataram song and persecute anyone who is uncomfortable with that song.

Agreed. Especially for the Congress.

I didn't know that.

@Bilal9 bhai, I never thought you being a worldly-wise person would have anything to do with the drone-like Tableeghis. :)
Jinnah is way more larger than life character and one of the most underrated and vilified politician here. I was surprised too when I read about it and also one of my teacher mentioned about Jinnah is that he was one of the foremost icon of Hindu Muslim unity in India and that is why during 1916 lucknow Congress assembly he was been praised vehemently by Nightingale of India Sarojini Naidu. No wonder something really must have happened to change the mindset of such a person who was once venerated as a beacon of unity.

This the link of what you requested.

I know, right? bajrangis bhai jaans are much cuter!

Let us use the proper names like Bajrang Dal, Sri Ram Sene etc.

And no, they are not some sophisticated, intellectual movement whom I would support. They are criminal groups.

Please check this out (Muslims at the end of the Mughal empire under British rule were easy targets, hence Bankim professed his anti-Muslim and pro-British ideas),

Thank you for articles. I learned quite a few things.

From the second article :
I was horrified when a classmate of mine nonchalantly commented about the RSS being a ‘cultural’ organisation which aimed to preserve all that was ‘Indian’.
I have heared that quite a bit on PDF too, from supposedly educated people.

From the first article :
Ambedkar-Periyar Study Circle, an independent student body recognized by IIT Madras
I have heard that name somewhere, from some Progressive protest.

In every US university you have Muslim Student Councils. Those unite Muslim students/faculty and one of their activities is Tableegh and Dawah activities such as visiting Mosques and congregations in different cities in the US (typically a mosque in another city where Symposiums and conferences occur).

Do they talk about Muslim leaders like Nasser and Gaddafi as these type of people knew the true spirit of Islam, as against the obsession with prayer, ritual and a certain dress-code that is thought to be all there is to Islam by the Tableeghis as per what I have observed ??

Then you will be reading fazal e amal in masjid every salat and giving impromptu khatiras at the flip of Ameer's finger.

Will the ameer let me date his sister or daughter ?? :D

Rituals have their place in Islam, I don't see anything wrong with that. The first thing we will be asked about on qiyamat is namaz.

Tabligh is a great way for people of Pakistan, India, BD to meet each other and share ideas, build brotherhood, outside the realm of petty politics.

This is why Hindutva views it as a threat.

They are criminal group
that is not how you describe them barangis in another thread. even when I tried to show you their hateful and not very subtle subliminal messaging and spite for Islam, you found excuses and defended them to the hilt

Allow me to talk about this another day. :)

I have made a few posts about this and I will attach those too.

Sorry but when did I defend Bajrang Dal and Sri Rama Sene ?? I called them criminal groups.

What I said before that was for us not to use "Bajrangi Bhaijaan" because that was the name of a film that promoted cross-border peace. Surely you have seen this film. Surely you see that it is incorrect to affix this film's name to the criminal groups I mentioned.

As long as mahrem tags along, I don't see why not.

When that happens I will say "Cheers, the tea is fantastic !!" :D

They had some good aspects and bad aspects, but ultimately their ideology died when they did.

About Nasser, in a computer institute I attended here in India I had a batch mate named Jamal Abdul Nasser who obviously was born decades after Nasser died but my batch mate's parents were much inspired by the environment and influence that Nasser had built up during his time.

About Gaddafi, he was one of the main developers of the Jamahiriya theory aka The Third Universal Theory which has survived after his death. Not only do many Libyans want to go back to that system, the South American country of Venezuela is also being converted into the Direct Democracy Socialism system that Libya was. The former Venezuelan President, late Hugo Chavez, was a friend of Gaddafi and got inspired by the Libyan system.
