Yes remittances is not a industry, its never guaranteed and also prone to outside economic shocks, along with second and 3rd generations do not send money as like the first generations. Also lastly this will create lots of jobs for local citizens as well. You just have to carefully look at it. There will be less corruption and more accountability as well. Taxation plays a huge role in nation building. Here is an interesting read, I am not condoning for lotteries to raise revenue, but just an example, you need to create industries at a local level.Remittance is just a bonus revenue to the economy.

Yes I agree that the money of overseas Sylhetis should be used to create real industry in Sylhet and BD in general rather than the shopping centres, restaurants and hotels that we have been mainly seeing.

As young Sylhetis in the UK for example are now educated, then we will see this happening more and more and there are plenty of us who would like nothing better than to use our money and knowledge to set up wealth generating business back in our homeland. In fact I am thinking of using my IT skills to set up a business in Sylhet sometime later on this decade.

I understand why the government has not supported this since 1971 as BD needed to form a strong national identity first.

With a strong national identity now formed and absolutely no regrets in Sylhet in joining BD, now is the time for steps to start to be taken to formally recognise the uniqueness of Sylhet division in BD. Sylheti language should be fully supported by the central government in BD with the ultimate aim making Sylhet division fully bilingual in both Sylheti and Bengali.

Suppression of language and culture is always a strong reason for dissatisfaction, that ultimately leads to other problems. It would be wise for governments around the world, and Bangladesh is no exception, to stay away from determining linguistic and cultural preferences.

MashAllah, how can we get GoB to recognize Sylheti language ?

Simple, we give way more than we get!

Since independence GOB extracting Sylhets natural wealth, destroying our environment. GOB imposing huge taxes on our income too as lots of us happens to fall under government high income list!

Now look at Sylhets infrastructures and government services, Simply 3rd class! I think we deserve better. We are paying premium for 3rd class things...
That’s the truth for everyone in Bangladesh. Not just sylhetis

Hello mr. IAmNotACommunist, do you then believe in flat taxes too? And also not just flat percentage, flat raw tax. Because why should a rich person pay more than a poor person just because they are rich? Thats the kind of nonsense you're spouting.

And many Sylhetis are paying a lot in taxes because they fall in the tax bracket you say. And so what? Do people from other divisions have to pay more even if they are poor, just to match the numbers of people from Sylhet? I am not sure what is there to complain about when you are earning more than most. Thats how every country works.

Pretty sure within sylhet, there are rich and poor district too. Why then stop at divisions and not go to individual districts? Why should one district within Sylhet pay more in taxes than in any other district? Just because one district has more people in that tax bracket? Well, now that won't do. It should be district or town wise since you want to be "fair".
Lmao I found this amusing. I agree with you

My point was, We Sylhetis pay high taxes compared to others, yet the government aren't spending on Sylhets development
Forgive me for being naive but if an average joe in sylhet is earning well north of tax bracket, he ought to pay his share, is there a law in Bangladesh that says rich people of Dhaka will pay 10 percent of 100k but sylhetis will pay 15%? I’m not well versed in economics or whatnot but You sound foolish

On the one hand he is saying that BD government is holding Sylhet back and on the other he says Sylhet pays a lot of taxes due to high income!
Well Sylhet is more than likely not being held back as it can earn enough to be paying high taxes.

Sylhet should pay more tax as it is richer than other divisions of BD. It is a perfectly normal thing that happens in all countries and one that did not do it(former Pakistan) no longer exists, probably for that very reason!

The video you posted is from a Hindutva Group called Sarayu Trust which is a Sanghi Hindutva mouthpiece. That organization's policies are completely against the principles of most Bangladeshis that populate this sub forum.

I will not subscribe to any videos or ideas made by that organization - makes me puke. Their hope is to reclaim and rebuild the Hindu Civilization. Which is another name for RSS/BJP. Their facebook posts are filled with ideas of how to spread Hindi language to other Indian non-Hindi speaking once and current anti-BJP states including Bengal and Assam. Probably a part of Assamese BJP wing trying to stengthen their position.

I don't know if you are aware of this. The subject of the video is supporting the Hindu-ization and legitimate reclaiming of Sylhet to Assam.

If you did this deliberately - then it is a rather amateur Hindutva attempt at sowing discord between Sylhetis and Bangladeshis from parts other than Sylhet.

You are not Hindu/Sanghi by any chance - are you?

MashAllah, how can we get GoB to recognize Sylheti language ?

The word is not MashAllah, it is Masha' Allah. Two different meanings.

Are you Muslim or Hindu?

No country works this way.

The resources are shared equally. No area has any ownership of the resources within it's territory.

Well without Sylhet being part of BD do not expect as much BD tourists to visit Sylhet every year.
As BD gets wealtheir Sylhet will be able to tap into more and more domestic tourists from other parts of BD.

You say "ours" but Sylhet is part of BD. The gas belongs to BD to be used for the development of the whole country.

Sylhet is getting the public spending as per population share.

In the Pakistan era, a more populous BD was sending money over to less populous Pakistan.

Sylhet has 8% of the population of BD and with the bulk of the natural resources of course most of the money from the extracted resources from Sylhet will be spent elsewhere in the country. That is what happens anywhere else in the world and nothing unusual.

This is as the central government is not holding Sylhet back. Sylhet is getting an IT Park like anywhere else in BD.

Yes us Sylhetis are very hard working and that is the reason why we are successful but it is not being held back by the central government in Dhaka.

OP reminds me of an "up and coming" Chinese micro cap stock.

Ticks all the right words in name, but its fraudulent underneath.

@UKBengali, @Avicenna, @Abu Shaleh Rumi and @Michael Corleone - if someone posts Sanghi propaganda videos (which is the subject of the first post) then they are a false-flagger Sanghi. If they try to break Bangladesh, they are a Sanghi in my book too.

How do Sanghis think we are so gullible? We need a proven well-vetted Mod pronto.

First of Ramadan and I am rather restrained - so that's all I have to say. Nilgiri and that other Assamese guy playing tricks on us. Their credit, our stupidity.

@WebMaster, @jaibi, @Dubious please take action at your leisure. Greetings of a Ramadan Kareem to all.

@WebMaster @jaibi should it be bannable offense for accusing another member of indulging in multi-accounting (itself a bannable offense)?

Please consider it in the next mod-jirga

Agree.

@WebMaster @jaibi While you guys are at it, please feel free to expand that bannable criteria to members who actively try to sow discord between Pakistanis and Bangladeshis. (In the name of trolling or whatever you wanna call it)

if they take up your suggestion we're both for the chop.

BTW I've been taking your name in vain @ https://defence.pk/pdf/posts/12268196/
sow discord between Pakistanis and Bangladeshis.
what 'try to sow'? it's already grown into a big tangled mangrove in the real world as opposed to the web fantasy-land.
