@Nilgiri you know Hindi, right? And many if not most in TN can easily understand Hindi, right? And Hindi movies are popular in TN, right?

The answer is no. Unlike other states, TN doesnt have 3 language policy where Hindi isnt taught. And since we arent surrounded by Hindi speaking states, until unless one learns Hindi in private schools, they can never read or write. But talking Hindi is out of question.

just a minor correction, Tamil unlike Hindi isnt a regional language. Its an international language, the official language in 2 countries (Singapore/Sri Lanka) and a language of education in a few countries (e.g Malaysia, Mauritius). Does Hindi possess should credential ? Comparing a very ancient classical language to a third rate language is an insult to Tamil
