Russians have always been crap at user interfaces and MMI of their products, forcing a high workload on pilots, that is one of the reasons why their platforms are sooo in effective against western platforms..

Human brain is wired to process pictorial information. Dials is pictorial information. It's hard for people to read symbols. That's why Su-35 uses dials even though there are not physical dials only electronic dials.
