Sri Lanka's Mihin Lanka flies to Bangladesh in December

Direct flights between Bangladesh & Sri Lanka will help to further strengthen bilateral trade among the two countries.

"Direct flights between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will be initiated by Mihin Lanka early next month which will provide traders with easy access between the two countries strengthening trade ties further," Sri Lanka Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry, President Harikesha Wijesekera said.

Speaking at the recent Bangladesh and Sri Lanka International Buyer Seller Meet 2010 held in Colombo he said there are 16 Sri Lankan logistics companies located in Bangladesh which makes trading between the two countries easy.

this will be a very helpful initiative if actually materialized. Because for the time being we have to reach Srilanka via Singapore and therefore the fare skyrockets. Something like 900$ and india doesn't allow flights to reach srilanka via their airports. Dunno how'll they solve the routes but good initiative.

Actually these days India not in a mood to oppose Sri Lanka

We can easily get any approval from them

It's not about 'allowing or not allowing', because India's airlines are not all government owned - we have dozens of private airlines. Only recently, the private airlines have been allowed to operate international flights. And any private airline functions purely for profit and business. If any route, say Dhaka-Bangalore-Colombo for example, is deemed profitable, there is no valid reason why flights will not be started by one of these big private players like Kingfisher or Jet Airways.
