Sri Lankan Navy & Indian Navy Joint Staff Level Talks Begins

The joint staff level talks between the Sri Lankan Navy and Indian Navy began at Sri Lankan Navy Headquarters today and will continue till 09th September 2011. A wide range of issues of bilateral importance will be discussed with a view to strengthen the friendly ties between the Navies of the two neighbouring countries.

The Indian Navy delegation is led by Rear Admiral P Murugesan AVSM, VSM, the Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Foreign Cooperation) of the Indian Navy and is comprised of six members. On arrival, the head of the Indian delegation made a courtesy call on the Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Somathilake Dissanayake, WV,RSP*,VSV,USP,ndc.

The Sri Lankan Navy delegation of ten members is led by Rear Admiral Jayantha Perera, USP, ndc, psc, the Director General Operations of the Sri Lanka Navy.

Delegates will focus on operational and training as well as logistics and technical matters concerning the two Navies. They will also share views on preventive measures to curb potential threats of drug trafficking, arms and human smuggling in Palk Bay and Palk Straits to enhance maritime security.

Any updates on the SL proposal for joint naval SOFs ex with IN MARCOs? The SL were very keen on operating with MARCOs after they have already been trained by them.
