Sri Lankan Airlines to start direct Bangladesh flights
Sri Lankan Airlines will start operating direct flights from Dhaka to Colombo very soon with a view to facilitating communication and also expanding the trade between two countries.
This was revealed when newly appointed Sri Lankan High Commissioner to Bangladesh WA Sarath Kumara Weragoda presented his credentials to President Zillur Rahman at Bangabhaban today.
During the meeting, the High Commissioner said the Sri Lankan Airlines which continued its operation till 2001 before closing, would resume the operation very soon.
Expressing his hope to expand trade and commerce between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, he said his country is very interested to import many Bangladeshs industrial and agricultural products.
He assured the president of efforts to increase the volume of trade and commerce during his tenure.
President Zillur Rahman urged the Sri Lankan businessmen to invest here as the investment-friendly atmosphere is prevailing in the country.
Secretary to the President’s office M Safiul Alam, Foreign Secretary Mijarul Quayes, Military Secretary Major Gen Abul Kalam M Humayun Kabir and Press Secretary AKM Nesar Uddin Bhuiyan were present during the meeting.
Earlier, the High Commissioner was given guard of honors by the contingent of the President Guard Regiment.
