Sri Lanka opens first expressway
Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa has opened the country's first expressway running from the capital Colombo to the city of Galle, which will slash travel time to the south.
The 700 million US dollar expressway is built with loans from Japan and the Asian Development Bank.The section that is opened for traffic is a part of a 126 kilometre road running to the Southern city of Matara.
Users will be charged 400 rupees to travel 96 kilometres up to Galle.
The government is planning to extend the road up to Hambantota.
