Sounds a lot like Indian philosophy. Kinda like how a woman should burn herself in a fire if her husband dies before her.
It was outlawed by the British. Too bad they couldn't tackle the Indian penchant for thievery as well.
....What a shame we had to send emissaries and missionaries to SL to teach philosophy, ethics and values. Looks like they fell short. 
Culture beyond culture. Sophistication beyond sophistication. India truly is the world leader in "ethics" and "values"

Defence co-operation between Sri Lanka and the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) is now in the pipeline.
This was after highly decorated Sri Lankan officer, Major-General Aruna Perera, met with Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama in Suva yesterday.
Major General Perera mentioned Sri Lanka’s offer to work to assist the RFMF.
He said he was happy with the Prime Minister’s response.
The RFMF Land Force Commander, Colonel Sitiveni Qiliho who was also at the meeting told the Fiji Sunhe would be looking into the defence co-operation.
Major-General Perera said he would like RFMF to send some senior officers to Sri Lanka to look at their military operations and later prepare the defence co-operation between the two defence forces.
Sri Lanka has a highly trained and experienced military with a record of success in counter terrorism.
Colonel Qiliho said the two forces had been in touch through the RFMF rugby players who now play in Sri Lanka.
Now he said while RFMF would send rugby players, Sri Lanka had offered to help the RFMF in cricket.
India gifts ship 'Varaha' to SL Navy
Former Indian Coast Guard Ship Varaha, which had been in service with Sri Lanka Navy as Naval Ship ‘Sagara’ since 2006, was today ceremonially handed over to Sri Lanka Navy by Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Y. K. Sinha at Colombo port.![]()
Defence Ministry Secretary B. M. U. D. Basnayake accepted the ship on behalf of the Government of Sri Lanka.
Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne welcomed High Commissioner Sinha, Chief of Defence Staff Kolitha Gunatilleke and the other distinguished invitees onboard Sagara.
SLNS Sagara is an Offshore Patrol Vessel made by India in 1992. The ship, which is 75m in length and 11m in width, was provided by the Indian Government on a free dry lease agreement to the Sri Lanka Navy in 2006 in appreciation of the Sri Lanka Navy’s efforts to maintain the maritime security in the region.
SLNS Sagara served the Sri Lanka Navy in many successful operations conducted during the conflict period. It has contributed immensely for surveillance activities since 2009 to date.

China and India will take part in the joint military exercise ‘Cormorant Strike VI – 2015’, together with more than 2000 tri-service personnel and representative military officers from foreign countries.
Major General Jagath Dias, Chief of Staff said that the mock Field Training Exercise (FTX) focused on the employment of Special Operations Forces (SOF) in order to provide basis to launch ground operations will commence from Pulmudai to North of Arugam Bay on Thursday.
He said that 2500 Infantry, Commando and Special Forces troops representing Sri Lanka Army, 245 Navy personnel, 140 sailors from Sri Lanka Air Force and 53 foreign participants and observers are expected to participate in this year’s Exercise ‘Cormorant Strike VI – 2015’.
Military officers from Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan and USA have already confirmed their participation in the Exercise.
“The Exercise with Army Commando (CR) Regiment and Special Forces (SF) Regiment troops, integrated with Navy and Air Force Special Forces, aims to enhance special operation capabilities and maintain combat readiness at all levels,” Major General Jagath Dias said.
Covering a vast patch of island’s jungle areas, coupled with simultaneous mock seaborne and airborne operations, the Exercise in its final stages expects to join with Army troops.
This Army-initiated mock Field Training Exercise (FTX), organized and implemented in close cooperation with Sri Lanka Navy and Air Force has been designed for deployment of their troops in a war milieu of Special Operations at any given moment and planned for conduct of joint operations as one team, using manoeuvrist approach, encompassing planning, execution and command.
It also focuses on planning, preparations, formulations, coordination, command, control, tactics, techniques and procedures (TTP), execution of Special Operations within given frameworks and is organized by the Directorate of Training at the Army Headquarters.
