Sri Lanka brings Turkey into Indian Ocean
“TCG GEMLIK” (F 492) a Turkish Naval Ship arrived at the Colombo Port on 05th September 2011.
Sri Lanka Navy ceremonially welcomed them in accordance with naval traditions. The purpose of the visit is to strengthen friendly ties between the two Navies.
The ship with a crew of 30 officers and 241 sailors is 138.6 meters in length and Commanded by the Commander Murth Ugur.
Rear Admiral Sinan Ertugrul,the Commander of Task Force 151(CTF 151), the mission oriented Task Force engaged in Counter Piracy Operations in the Gulf of Aden, arrived onboard, called on the Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, Vice Admiral Somathilake Dissanayake and Rear Admiral Jayantha Perera ,the Director General Operations, on the same day. They exchanged mementoes as a token of friendship and cooperation between the two Navies.
“TCG GEMLIK” will remain at port of Colombo till 08th September 2011 and its crew will participate in special programs organized by the Sri Lanka Navy to promote goodwill and cooperation between the two Navies.
