Sri Lanka Army to build a 5 star hotel
Sri Lanka Army is looking for a suitable land in Colombo to build a five star hotel, Military spokesman Nihal Hapuarachchi said. Army engineers supported by a large number of soldiers from every regiment are engaged in a large number of infrastructure projects implemented by the government in all parts of the country mainly in the Northern and Eastern Provinces, he said.
We are now engaged in five hotel projects in Nilaweli, Arugam Bay and Yala. These are mini hotel projects with 20 to 30 rooms. These hotels will cater to servicemen in the three armed forces and in the future they will available for the public as well, Brigadier Hapuarachchi said.
Apart from that we are engaged in road construction projects in Trincomalee and Batticaloa. A number of bridges, buildings, playgrounds and parks are also being built by the Army. We constructed the Suriyawewa International Cricket Stadium and the Diyagama Sports Stadium, he said.
Recently Army Commander Jagath Jayasuriya has emphasized the need to have a separate company within the management of the Army in carrying out development and construction projects effectively at a low cost by following the governments tender procedure.
However Brigadier Hapuarachchi said the idea which is now at discussion level might come out as a separate directorate within the Army.
