Sri Lanka Army denies media reports on training soldiers in India
Sri Lanka Army Media Spokesman Major General Ubhaya Medawela denied the media reports that the Army lost a training opportunity in an Indian military academy in Tamil Nadu due to protests of Tamil groups supporting Sri Lankan Tamils' issues.
The Sri Lanka Army said a military delegation of trainee officers at Sapugaskanda Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) are currently visiting India on a 10-day long study tour as an integral part of their training curriculum.
They are scheduled to visit Pakistan, Indonesia and Malaysia in addition to India.
According to the PTI report, India cancelled a proposed three-month long training program for 25 Sri Lankan soldiers at the Defence Service Staff College at Wellington in the state of Tamil Nadu following the protests and sent back the soldiers who reached the college Friday.
The Sri Lanka Army said Indian military authorities warmly received the team on arrival at DSCSC in Wellington where they received a comprehensive knowledge on its training modules, roles and tasks and international training programmes.
