Sport banned by the Taliban thrives again

JUNE 16, 2011

New cricket teams are springing up in Helmand Province – and its growing popularity would have been a crime under the old Taliban regime which banned the sport.

Now it offers young people hope and diverts them away from the insurgency. British Forces News reporter Charlotte Cross has been to the football stadium in the middle of Lashkar Gah to see a game of cricket under way – part of a tournament involving teams from all over the province.

that's good for afgan youth. these thick skulled talibans should be taught that there are also other sports which do not involve guns & bombs.

they should start playing fotball, instead of cricket! maybe they can form some good players and sell them to europe where fotball is huge. the clubs get money and the trust to afghans will increase! :D
