Dubai: A father and a mother were jailed for forcing their 16-year-old daughter into prostitution by selling her to a businessman, who paid Dh16,000 to have sex with her.
The Dubai Court of First Instance jailed the 38-year-old Pakistani father, K.A., for five years and his 35-year-old wife, S.K., for three years because they exploited their teenaged daughter sexually and coerced her [emotionally] to have sex with strangers.
The 16-year-old girl had earlier cried when she confronted her parents in court and testified how they sold her body for Dh16,000 to overcome poverty.
“My father sold my virginity because he wanted me to help our family not to stay poor anymore. He and my mother forced me to work in prostitution,” said the Pakistani teenager.
Prosecutors said K.A. and S.K. of human trafficking by exploiting their parenthood and coercing their daughter into the sex industry.
The court also handed the mother six additional months in jail for working in prostitution.
According to Thursday’s ruling, presiding judge Ezzat Abdul Lat jailed two Pakistani men, 40-year-old A.H. and 19-year-old M.S., for two years each for running a flat in Al Mankhoul Area as a brothel.
They were also found guilty of benefitting financially from a number of prostitutes and guilty of developing a website on which they uploaded nude and indecent photos of sex workers to promote prostitution.
The Pakistani businessman, M.Y., who had sex with the teenager, was jailed for one year.
“The flat will be shut down for good and cannot be reopened unless after obtaining prosecutors’ permission to do so and for legitimate purposes. All the accused will be deported after serving their punishments,” said presiding judge Abdul Lat.
The five defendants entered a not guilty plea.
The girl told the court: “We are poor and my father coerced me to come with him to Dubai… he told me that if I work in prostitution, we would become rich quickly. He became angry when I refused. I was forced to accept because I was under severe emotional pressure.”
A.H. contended in courtroom seven that he worked as an accountant. “I did not run a brothel. A Pakistani man hired me from Faysalabad for Dh2,000 salary. I had nothing to do with the women, who worked as prostitutes in the flat,” he said.
“Who was the first customer who had sex with you? And did he know that you had not yet become a woman?” presiding judge Abdul Lat asked the teenager.
Pointing to M.Y., the girl replied: “It was that man. My parents and A.H. took me to M.Y. in a hotel room. He asked me to undress, but I was nervous and cried and begged him not to do that to me. Then he threatened me saying that he would take back the Dh16,000 that he had paid my father if I refused to surrender myself to him. I cried and begged him not to take the money… I removed part of my clothes. When he insisted, I asked him to allow me to call my father. When I spoke to my father, he told me not to sadden M.Y. Yes he knew that I had not yet become a woman and he told me that he paid Dh16,000 for that particular purpose.”
Prosecution records said a police informant posed as a potential client and the parents were arrested in a sting operation. The suspects were taken into custody.
“A.H. and M.S. used a mobile phone to take photos of me and the other women naked or half dressed to put the photos on the internet and lure clients,” the girl told the bench of three judges.
Thursday ruling remains subject to appeal within 15 days.

Dubai: A woman accountant who was apprehended nude in a hotel room where she went to have paid sex with a police informant has been jailed for six months.
An informant notified Dubai Police that the 36-year-old Pakistani accountant was selling sexual services to clients in different hotels in August.
Police commissioned the informant to pose as a sex client and contact the woman to have sex with her for Dh2,000 as part of a sting operation.
The informant agreed to meet the sex worker in a hotel.
Police surveillance teams raided the hotel room once the informant flashed for them and a policewoman arrested the defendant naked in bed.
On Monday, the Dubai Court of First Instance convicted the defendant of prostitution.
Presiding judge Habib Awad said the defendant, who pleaded guilty, will be deported.
The Dh2,000 that was seized with the woman will be confiscated.
A policeman testified that the informant alerted them that the accused had been working as a prostitute across Dubai hotels.
“The informant was tasked to call up the defendant and arrange to meet her up for paid sex in a hotel room. As part of the sting operation police raided the room shortly after the informant flashed for us to do so. A policewoman busted the Pakistani woman who was naked. She was taken into custody. During questioning, the 36-year-old admitted that she had been having paid sex with strangers for money,” he said.
The primary ruling remains subject to appeal within 15 days.

Dubai: Three workers and a woman have been jailed for three years each for running a brothel where two 17-year-old girls were found to be working as prostitutes.
One of the Pakistani girls was reported to have been convinced by her 24-year-old countrywoman to fly in to Dubai to work in prostitution in a flat at Al Baraha.
Once the girl landed at the airport, the older woman picked her up and accompanied her to a flat where there was another Pakistani teenaged girl in January.
The two girls willingly worked in prostitution for their three countrymen workers, aged 21, 29 and 32, who happened to be running the flat in Al Baraha as a prostitution den.
Dubai Police’s human trafficking department were alerted by an informant that the Pakistani men had been sexually exploiting teenage girls and making them work as prostitutes in the flat.
A police informant posed as a client and visited the flat as part of a sting operation.
Shortly after the informant entered the flat, the police raided the place and arrested the three workers and a 25-year-old Pakistani, who happened to be having sex with the woman.
The four Pakistani men were taken into custody while the 24-year-old woman remains at large.
On Thursday, the Dubai Court of First Instance convicted the Pakistani trio and the 24-year-old fugitive of running a brothel and benefiting financially from one of the prostitutes by taking the proceeds of sex.
Presiding judge Urfan Omar fined each of them Dh100,000.
However, the four convicts were acquitted of human trafficking and sexually exploiting the 17-year-old girls who were found to have been willingly working in prostitution.
The customer was also jailed for six months for having consensual sex with the absconding defendant.
The convicts will be deported following the completion of their punishments. The flat that was being run as a brothel will be shut down and will not be opened except upon prosecutors’ consent, said presiding judge Omar.
The four defendants had pleaded not guilty.
The 24-year-old was sentenced in absentia.
The 17-year-old girl testified that her countrywoman convinced her to come to Dubai and work in prostitution.
“She knew that I had been working in prostitution in Pakistan and she convinced me to do the same in Dubai. I told my parents that I would be working as a saleswoman so that they allowed me to travel to Dubai. Once I arrived, she picked me up and took me to the flat. She told me that I would be working for the three Pakistani men suspects who were running the brothel. There was another girl in the flat … we used to get 10 clients per day. We used to charge each client Dh100 for sex. Later on, the 24-year-old woman flew to Pakistan and she never returned. The 32-year-old defendant used to enter the number of clients and the proceeds in a log book. The 29-year-old suspect was the one who had rented the flat,” she said.
A lieutenant from the police’s human trafficking section said they raided the flat and apprehended the defendants in a sting operation.
“The informant alerted us that the convicts had been making teenagers work in prostitution. That is considered a human trafficking crime. We obtained prosecutors’ permission, raided the flat and apprehended the culprits,” he testified to prosecutors.
The ruling remains subject to appeal.

Zunera once dreamed of becoming a computer engineer. Instead, aged 16, she was tricked into prostitution in the UAE, beginning a four-year nightmare of cruelty, violence and rape.
Pakistan has long been an important source of cheap labour for the Gulf state, particularly its booming construction sector.
But campaigners and officials say hundreds of young Pakistani women are also trafficked every year to supply the thriving sex trade in the brothels and nightclubs of Dubai. Zunera and her sister Shaista were two of them.
More than a year after she escaped, Zunera's pain is still etched into her stumbling, hesitant voice -- and also into her body, which bears the marks of countless beatings.
Vivid, angry scars run the length of her legs from ankle to hip, reminders of a botched operation after she was shot three times by the gang who trafficked her.
Zunera and Shaista managed to escape their tormentors in 2013 but still live in hiding in a two-room house in a slum, fearing revenge attacks. AFP is withholding their full names and precise whereabouts for their safety.
Their ordeal began in her hometown in Punjab province, when the family got into money trouble and a neighbour named Ayesha offered the sisters domestic work.
After a while Ayesha suggested she take the sisters to Dubai to work in her beauty parlour, getting fake papers to help the underage Zunera leave Pakistan.
Shaista is so traumatised by her experiences she can barely recount her harrowing ordeal.
Fighting back tears, Zunera revealed the horror that awaited them at Dubai.
"Ayesha took us to the lavatories at the airport and told us that we will be serving her clients for sex," Zunera told AFP.
"We started crying and then she told us that we travelled on fake documents and if we said anything we would be handed over to police right there."
Faced with no alternative, the sisters went with Ayesha, thinking they could just avoid having sex with clients.
"The first time, she herself was present in the room and made us do what the clients wanted. We were raped in front of her and with her assistance," Zunera said.

A Pakistani mother forced her two teenage daughters into prostitution after bringing them to the UAE, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.
The crime came into light when two undercover inspectors visited a massage centre in Karama on June 5.
Inspector Haitham Ibrahim of the Ministry of Labour testified, "When we entered the male massage centre, the receptionist offered us three girls for services, one of them was very young."
Allowing girls to offer service in a men's health centre was a clear violation of rules.
The two inspectors showed their ID cards and asked the receptionist and the ladies to show their cards.
The young girl told the officers that she does not hold any ID.
"Although the receptionist offered the young girl for service, he intervened and said that the girl was only visiting her friend," said the inspector.
The girl asked the inspectors for protection and told that she has been working in the centre as a masseur for men for a year. She also informed that her mother had given her to the owner in exchange of Dh8,000, while the girl was being paid Dh1,000 monthly.
The receptionist threatened the girl in Urdu not to divulge any information. However, the inspector understood the language and asked him to remain silent.
The girl continued in Urdu and told the inspectors that the owner of the centre and her mother seized her passport and forced her to do this work.
"After checking the centre, we did not find proper clothes for customers. The girls admitted men were completely naked during the service with only a towel covering their modesty.
The receptionist said he has been working in the centre for five months for Dh1,000 per month.
The other two girls have been working in the centre willingly for 8 months for Dh1,500 monthly salary.
The inspectors took the young girl to the police station after issuing a violation to the centre.
The girl MA, told her story to the police.
"My father and mother got divorced in Pakistan. My ten siblings and I stayed with my mother who got married to an 18-year-old jobless man. My mother said she would bring my sister and me to the UAE to pursue our studies. She managed to get us visit visa on the centre's sponsorship.
FA, 22, Pakistani clerk, received the two girls at Sharjah International airport and took them to a flat.
"We stayed in the owner's room for a month since he was overseas. My mother took our passports claiming that she needs them to enroll us in collage.
"However, my mother asked us to work in the massage centre until we get admission in the collage.
"When we refused, she let other men beat us till we said yes. The men also threatened to bring our younger sisters if we refused," she said.
In the centre, the two girls found out that their mother offers sex to clients along with massage services.
"During the last ten days of Ramadan, we went back to Pakistan. There my sister got admission in a college and refused return to Dubai. However, my mother threatened us and continued beating our siblings until we agreed," said the victim.
Whenever, authorities came to visit the massage centres, the girls used to be confined in the flat and asked to resume work later.
"My sister was sent back to Pakistani after FA (clerk) raped her and she got pregnant. Then I was forced to offer massage to client's sensitive part as they used to charge more for that. My mother received Dh1,000 for my work," she said.
The girl tried to seek police help, but could not make contact.
She also told the police that she sought customers' help but no one heard her plea.
The ministry of labour found out that the owner of the centre NA, 41, had a license for a salon for women on which he issued work visas to the girl's mother SK, 37, and the other women.
It was also found out that the women salon was set up only to acquire license and the interior was later converted for men.
The mother and the owner of the salon are fugitives.
Police referred the workers in the centre, IA, 25, hairdresser, MO, 33 clerk and FA, 22 clerk in addition to the two fugitives, all Pakistanis, to the court on accusations of human trafficking, physical assault and exploiting the victim for sexual acts.
The court will reconvene on March 30.
