TOKYO: South Korea has jacked up its lending limit for Pakistan from $500 million to $800 million at an interest rate that is lower than offered by any other country/lender, a Pakistani envoy said.

“South Korea extends loans for Pakistan's development projects at a lending rate of 0.1 percent, the lowest so far, by which a lot of projects are

being completed in the country,” Rahim Hayat, ambassador of Pakistan to South Korea, said while talking to The News in Tokyo, Japan.

Ambassador Hayat said the repayment of loan starts after 20 years, at 0.1 percent interest rate, and no other country in the world lends on such easy terms.

He said Korean government, after successful negotiations, had, in principal, approved an extension in its loan limit by $300 million raising it from $500 million to $800 million, which would help Pakistan launch new development projects in the country.

The ambassador said the $100 million information technology (IT) park project in Islamabad was also a great example of friendship with South Korea and “we are working with South Korean government to bring more big projects to Pakistan”.

The ambassador gave the credit for these achievements to the efforts of his team especially in diplomatic affairs including Sarah Sarwar, head of chancery and community welfare, and attaché Shafiq Haider.

“These officials are doing their best to help resolve problems faced by Pakistani community, while Pakistan Business Association is serving the best to promote business between Pakistan and South Korea in the leadership of Mudassir Cheema,” ambassador Hayat said.

He said due to his passionate diplomatic team’s putting their hundred percent into their endeavours, the mission’s overall performance had improved by leaps and bounds.

Hayat further said he also treasured the role of 2500 Pakistani students in South Korea that were brightening the name of Pakistan with their excellent academic performance while strengthening the bilateral relations between the two countries.

Japan can help us in this regard too as they are now providing loans with as low as 0.1% interest rate with a grace period of 10-15 years. We should have gone for these type of loans (as well as BOT) as far as infrastructure is concerned instead of Taking loans from IMF at 5-8% interest rate and wasting that money on infrastructure projects.

At this point, Japan cant be trusted. They will do anything in their power to disturb chinese investments.

They give you money to buy from their markets..
Same with Japanese and Chinese.
You just can't build infra with their money.

You buy costlier equipment and lower interest rate

Fun fact: If you visit Taxila and its neighboring archaeological sites you'll find UNESCO info signs written in Urdu, English & Korean. Korean people have been touring Pakistan & its heritage sites for decades.

Or maybe, they decide to neutralize chinese investment with their own investment/loan plan ? We have to take in count some 5-6 month old news when they offered to provide concession loans (0.1% interest rate) for different projects.

Japan and South Korea need to be involved in infrastructure projects in Pakistan.

God knows how much infrastructure we need, every major and medium sized city is lacking proper mass transit or metro systems, highway network, water and wastewater treatment, power generation and distribution facilities, schools and hospitals. There is a MASSIVE opportunity to make money in all these projects.

They were literally begging to fund the KCR revival for past many years, but the lovely PPP was only interested in lining its pockets and the Japanese backed off due to corruption.

Not really, Japan is America's pet they will do anything to please their owner. Also Japan hates China to its core, they will do anything to harm it. Why do you think they are making a counter corridor in India, just to destabilize CPEC

I would recomend looking into the subject of japanese sabotage
Btw, are you aware of the japanese car mafia and the threats they made when Pakistan was giving a chance to the new car manufacturers? The only reason we dont see any competition is because of them
