Some former PMs compromised 'deep assets', defence minister Manohar Parrikar alleges - The Times of India

NEW DELHI: Defence minister Manohar Parrikar has accused former PMs of compromising India's deep assets, leading to a strong reaction from the Congress.

Speaking at a function, the defence minister said, "deep assets are created over a period of twenty to thirty years. Some former Prime Ministers had compromised on these assets."

He, however, refused to name the former Prime Ministers.

Congress reacted strongly to these comments and sought a clarification.

"The defence minister should either name the PMs or issue an apology," Congress leader Manish Tewari said.

I dono what stops him from naming MMS..... But the bigger question here is "What kind of deep assets" is he referring to....If at all these assets are compromised, how is it going to affect India's future plans. . Hope it is not another goof up on RAW's capabilities as IKG & morarji did.......

@Horus @Oscar @waz Sorry guys there is another thread on the same subject but different source(some how it did not come up while opening this thread)....... I guess this can be merged with the other one....

Hmmmm Rajiv Gandhi will top the list of those PMs and then Narsimha Rao may be......
MMS would be towards the fag end of that list. JMHO!
Lol
But then as they say "samajh daar ke liye ishaara kafi hai".
Congress asking for an apology almost proves that they got the hint.

Rajiv Gandhi again tops in the list as per my understanding....

Why is Rao in your list ?

He said former PMs, for obvious reasons Parrikar would not raise a finger against former PM from BJP. So lets begin when it all started, and that brings Rajiv Gandhi and his bofors case to the fore. Next was Janta dal PM VP singh, but he was in power for a short period and so was Gawada. Then we 're left with Narsimha Rao and MMS, congress PMs ofcourse.
In short I named all the congress PMs from last 2-3 decades. :)

Shucks! Can't believe Vajpayeejee was such a person! Parikkar must have got it wrong!
Unlikely because he left Defence to the professionals. Guy is more a celibate poet and a statesman than a money making crackpot. The respectable Oxford educated Singh from Assam(!) is a possible candidate. But that is somewhat unlikely considering how little he spoke. This leaves the ones before him. I am not very sure about Rao, the guy was a Nationalist. But the other folks like Gujral right upto Rajeev are of course suspect.

i. Congress has made a lot of money selling this country. Modi has gone far too soft on the Congress.

ii. Ideally such a party should be exposed completely, the top leadership should be tried for high treason and sentenced to death by hanging if convicted.

iii. The supporters and all its affiliated organizations and lackeys should also be investigated, their property seized, right to vote revoked and citizenship snatched.
Then they should be tried as stateless people. This includes all party members, known hard core supporters etc.

iv. Places with high support for the party should be cordoned off and special schools must be setup for re-education, failing which their children should be adopted, if necessary by force by the State's Children Welfare Agencies (which needs to be established) where they would be given full scholarship at state expense and care.

v. The common petty trolls with proven record of money laundering should be arrested on terror charges and adequate compensation drawn from them so as to return the money to the people. In case they are unable to meet the requirements, they will be given the privilege to donate their organs to trusts.

Yeah right. The respectable singh who never took a penny for himself had a gene that led him to betray the country. This politics of insinuation has been the staple diet of BJP, especially under modi. He pulls stuff out of his @$$ and says something vague like 'our PM gave up assets', gets everyone jumping. No need for evidence or proof. Typical modi style.

We are only talking about suspects here. We are not YET sure. But some are involved and we will see what happens next.

@levina - I have no clue. I knew he will mellow down. But never expected upto this level. Otherwise his Govt is doing a fine job. Economy is looking up, the Government is pro active, defence is being taken care of, India's diplomatic standing has improved etc. But keeping parasites within is not a mature outlook. We should take 'Congress Mukt Bharat' more than just election rhetoric. We need to mean it. Congress must become history. Totally and completely history.

But i have no concrete reason to believe Rao would have compromised...... Do you have anything to suspect about him comprising the integrity of institutions as head of state ...?

This comment by Manohar Parrikar is neither relevant nor in good taste. Its a vague statement that aims to achieve nothing. All decisions have pros and cons. So to say that the biggest harm was done by Vajpayee by doing Pokhran - II(debatable) that gave Pakistan an opportunity to deploy nuclear weapons. India could have avoided it as we had already conducted smiling buddha in 1974. Morarji Desai was labelled a CIA agent by an American writer and worst Morarji lost the defamation suit. what does that mean? Did Rajiv Gandhi compromised Indian security by sending IPKF to Sri Lanka or almost agreeing to withdraw from Siachin. did Lal Bahadur Shastri compromised in Tashkent Agreement or Indira Gandhi compromised in Simla Agreement? IK Gujaral went extra mile with our hostile neighbours with his "gujral doctrine" that may have undermined our security.
I think i agree with congress that Parrikar should not give immature statements and must reveal the name of the PM and let there be a debate.

Your entire post is filled with ignorance and innocence. :)

As a Minister of Defence, it is Parrikar's job to make statements pertaining to national security without fear. Especially when PMs are involved. We should infact support his move to make even the PMs accountable.

And no, there won't be a debate after the names are revealed. They will be tried in court for treason.

Add I K Gujral to that list. Consequences of Gujral doctrine is even felt today by India's intelligence agencies. In his quest for peaceful relations with neighbors he ordered the Pakistan special operations desk of R&AW to be shut down, leading to a major gap in India’s intelligence capabilities. People believe that this was one of the key factors that led to the intelligence failure before the Kargil war.
