What's new

So you think you know your Balochistan?

Trust me, despite whatever this video states, Pakistanis generally more about regions of Pakistan than Indians know about India. I can say this confidently with personal experience with both Pakistanis and Indians, and I still have family in both India and Pakistan. The knowledge of Pakistanis is really bad on the different other regions of Pakistan, but they know 'something' about their places, they've heard about those places. India is a huge country, its more like a continent, and there are many regions Indians have not even heard about. Despite the extremely poor local knowledge of Pakistanis, Indians are even worse in this regard. No bias or prejudice here in my observation.

look mate i dont wanna get into a Di** measuring contest with u. i dont wanna know how many people in u r country know the capital of baluchistan or if they can remember 5 cities in baluchistan. if u r confident abt u r pakistani people u should be happy and satisfied.

so cheers.

So in other words, you have no answer to my personal observations with urban Indians from Gujarat, Punjab, Maharashtra who have never ever been outside their cities in India, & don't even know much about their state, forget about the country. I guess you have accepted what I'm saying is correct, because you have no response to my posts. You're good for flaming and troll posts, but when the heat is turned on, you just can't take it. Unfortunately, this is the same mentality of many jingoistic Indians, not the nice ones that long for peace and understanding.
Cheers for accepting you were wrong, appreciate it

I didn't mean to patronize you or any other Indians in post 45, I just wanted a different perspective on things in India. I love learning about India, & love hearing the opinions of Indians on India. I am ethnically an Indian, & even my parents were born in India. My mother never even visited Pakistan before she married my dad, she spent all her premarital life in Bihar. Hopefully someone else will respond to my posts.

first of all i never committed a mistake so there is no question of accepting it.

regarding u r views on my trolling. i have never been banned once. i have never personally attacked another member or belittled pakistan. we all know abt u r track record and u r anti india bias.

i dint want to enter into d**k measuring contest with u because i dind not want to break my head against wall. i have read u r posts and i think u lack the objectivity and u r blinded by patriotism, which i m not.

care to say when have u turned "heat" on me. even if u have turned it on, i have not felt it. please do not make it into a di**k measuring contest between india and pakistan because i have no intention of getting into one. we can stay whole day on this thread and argue to satisfy our ego but in the end it wont be off much help.

lastly, i stand by my opinion in all my posts.

Loving Pakistan does not mean I am Anti-Indian, but for you being Anti-Pakistani means being an Indian patriot. It's a sad reality that for people like you, you feel the need to propagate your jingoistic, anti-Pakistan views to show your loyalty to India. Let me guess: you've never talked to a Pakistani in real life, right? It's pretty obvious and easy to decipher reading your comments. I've interacted with Indians for years and years. I know about India, I have my entire mother's side living in India, I actually care about India, I've visited India twice and saw my ancestral hometown in Patna and Ranchi, but I care about Pakistan more because I was born there, and being the smaller nation, it has been propagated very negatively by Indians in the Western world.

The problem with you is that you take everything as a competition between India and Pakistan, I don't do that.I (and most Pakistanis) happily admit you are stronger than us, you are a huge, resourceful country with its fair share of problems, but still better than us. All we want is a little bit of respect and humanity from jingoistic Indians like you, but you don't even grant Pakistanis that. We respect Bangladesh and consider them to be our brothers, and we admitted our faults for 1971 and moved past those ghosts. You clearly haven't moved past the ghosts of 1947. Just a little bit of respect is demanded, nothing more. If you can't do that, then you can f**k off from this forum.

pls go and read my first post on this thread (post 41). no where i mention pakistan. in fact i was critical of my own country. it was u who wanted to turn this into indo vs pak affair.

u talk abt me not giving any respect to pakistan. wen i have not mentioned pakistan where is the question of me not giving any respect to pakistan.

First of all, I'm very sorry for my posts, and that I totally misconstrued them. I got confused between your and rov-gaurov's post, the latter starting this thread. Again, I'm sorry I have hurt your sentiments, I didn't mean to do that. But I certainly would like to know more about India. I responded to your first dig at UP wallas and Biharis, because I am a Bihari myself and I have extended family in UP, and I love these two states & the people there, & I don't like it when people from Gujarat, Punjab call these people backward without knowing anything about them.

There are ignorant people everywhere. I'm not defending Pakistanis on this, but Pakistanis are considerably worse off than Americans & do not get the opportunities to travel other countries & even their own cities. Americans are more resourceful, yet choose to live in ignorance. Pakistanis have a hard time making their ends meet. Pakistanis are avid followers of the conservative local media & newspapers, not the best sources of information, they get faulty information sometimes, but they try their best to keep in touch. News items about Iraq, Palestine, America are more popular than Balochistan. The interesting thing is, these very same Punjabis would know more about the internal matters of America than they would about Balochistan. Most Americans don't even know where Pakistan is located.

I know ignorant people are everywhere which i agreed to in one my earlier posts. I just came across this video, while i was searching for some other news. So I thought I would share it.

And as you are an Indian, I would like to tell you that I still have family in Amroha and Khujwan. Do you know where these two places are in India? After all, you are Indian, so you should know about these two places. If I ask you questions about Chattisgarh or the Seven Sister states, such as Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram; do you think you would know in depth information about these places? You probably wouldn't.

If we are talking about the same Amroha and Khujwan, then I do actually, in fact I too have distant relatives in Amroha! Although I left India a while ago, I still know loads about my country. Could it be that expats like us tend to learn more about our countries cause we live away, than say people who live there? I personally could name all the states and at least three major cities in each state of India of the top of my head. But then again am a bit of a nerd who could also name the capitals of all the countries of the world along with a lot of other information which does not need to be known by heart in this age of internet.

In fact, Indians are even more unaware of the situation of their other states than the Pakistanis are about their provinces; I know this personally. In fact, I have more knowledge about the languages, culture and geography of most Indian states than most of the Indians I've met.

See I wasn't taking a dig at Pakistanis, maybe me being an Indian made it look like that, but I wasn't. And you are right you could probably find just as many ignorant Indians but then I never claimed otherwise. As i said earlier, what amazed me was that no one apart from those two elderly gentlemen knew much about Balochistan, the biggest province of Pakistan mind you. Could it be because the younger generation has different priorities now?

well its not unsusual in south asia. the people are so occupied with their daily survivial that they have no time for these things. on top of that govt does also not help in educating common people abt these far flung places in country.

asl a normal UP or bihari uneducated farmer about places in northeast and i am sure he will be as ignorant as some people in the video.

You would be surprised actually mate. Have you been to a farm in UP? Politics and current affairs is all people from UP and Bihar talk about. Don't forget that people from Bihar and UP are still the top two IAS entrants. :P

Uttar Pradesh may still be reigning supreme as far as recruitment to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) is concerned, but Bihar has emerged a not- so-surprising second, leaving civil services nurseries such as Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh far behind.

The latest personnel ministry figures for 4,443 IAS officers show that while 671 (15 per cent) of them are domiciled in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar contributes 419 (9.4 per cent) officers to the service.

I don't think it is right to generalize/stereotype Pakistanis, Indians, Americans or anyone for that matter. It is a wrong notion that everyone acts or behaves similarly. So the younger generation have their own personal priorities, and these priorities are not the same.

Pakistanis and Indians are considerably worse off than Americans & do not get the opportunities to travel other countries & even their own cities. Americans are more resourceful, yet choose to live in ignorance. India is a huge country, and Pakistan is a big country too. There are huge distances between Punjab and Balochistan.

chill mate no hard feelings.

UP and Bihar India's top two IAS churners : North: India Today

@roy, yes i have been to bihar and UP. being a kashmiri myself, i have my relatives in both places and i visit them twice or thrice a year. i stand by my remark. people from UP and bihar may be knowledgable abt indian politics but their knowledge of north east india is very poor.

in late 90s i was part of a survey to check knowledge of common people abt india (national symbols, general info stuff) and w found out that knowledge level was just abt 40%.

if a state produces high number of IAS and IPS officers doesnt mean its common people have the same knowledge abt north east india.

Well you can't single out people from just UP and Bihar for that. People from pretty much every where else Punjab, Gujarat, Maharashtra or South India would be just as oblivious about North Eastern states. From what I have noticed, people know about the immediate surrounding states, and the further you go the knowledge diminishes too. So imo you singling out those two states was stereotyping.

in late 90s i was part of a survey to check knowledge of common people abt india (national symbols, general info stuff) and w found out that knowledge level was just abt 40%.

What sort of survey was that? Whats it called? Even then 40% sounds about right to me, cause thats close the literacy level of Bihar and UP in the late 90's.

if a state produces high number of IAS and IPS officers doesnt mean its common people have the same knowledge abt north east India.

Those IAS and IPS are common people too. Besides I wasn't talking about just N.E . From what I have noticed, I have found Biharis and UP people more knowledgeable than other people, when it comes to politics and current affairs.
