That is not strange at all.. Like muse said, there are ignorant people everywhere..

I have met plenty of Indians who does not have an iota of knowledge about Assam and north-east.. Most of them thinks assam is all jungle and wild tribals.. Heck I met one guy who thinks all people in north-east are gurkhas.

I'm from Khayber Pakhtoonkhuwa and i haven't visit balachistan yet but i knew at-least 5 city names. its highly edited video just for propaganda and a predefined goal. At first i was really shocked, how can they be so ignorant to not even know about Queta, so i asked the same question in my family, if they know any city of balochistan and everyone easily replied with Queta on the very first response. don't be fool with this video, they only included ignorant people to get their goal, otherwise majority know the city names at-least, if not about what's going on there.

if you know BBC urdu is occupied by pro indians or indians...and their focus is only on issues like harming Pakistan all the time...its a good way of learning the mind set of your opponents....

I can't imagine the majority not knowing basic things like Quetta at least and not knowing that Balochis live in Balochistan.

well actually not many peoples know that Quetta is part of Balochistan.

Everyone knows about Quetta in Pakistan i think... they read Quetta almost everyday in weather news. But even myself used to think Quetta is part of NWFP

I don't even know places in my city where I have lived >30Years ,,, BIG DEAL...!!!
I have never been to northen areas not even Muree,,, So does that mean I don't go there coz I hate those areas...!!! NO.... I don't know names of cities of Sindh, Sarhad, too, except for capitals... Does that mean I hate those provinces,,, !!! NO.

We know only places where we go to or have relatives or anyother reference...
Like in video couple of persons who have been there named the cities... Loralai, Zoob, Koaytah, Dera Murad Jamali, Tafkand...

It's got nothing to do with ignorance.

I love it when smug Europeans mock 'ignorant' Americans who don't know where Paris is. I ask these Europeans to tell me the capital of Burundi. When I get a blank stare, I tell them it's because they can live their entire life without knowing the capital of Burundi. Burundi could disappear off the face of the Earth and it would make no difference to their lives. Similarly, the average American can live a happy life without knowing where Paris is.

People learn facts as they need them. No need to get smug about it.

So I came across this video on BBC Urdu. Now we have all made fun of the videos showing how dumb Americans are and how little do they know about the world. If this video is sign of anything, looks like Pakistanis doesn't know much about their own country? It came as a bit of a surprise to me, cause even I know more about Baluchistan than any of these people interviewed?

There are ignorant people everywhere. I'm not defending Pakistanis on this, but Pakistanis are considerably worse off than Americans & do not get the opportunities to travel other countries & even their own cities. Americans are more resourceful, yet choose to live in ignorance. Pakistanis have a hard time making their ends meet. Pakistanis are avid followers of the conservative local media & newspapers, not the best sources of information, they get faulty information sometimes, but they try their best to keep in touch. News items about Iraq, Palestine, America are more popular than Balochistan. The interesting thing is, these very same Punjabis would know more about the internal matters of America than they would about Balochistan. Most Americans don't even know where Pakistan is located.

And as you are an Indian, I would like to tell you that I still have family in Amroha and Khujwan. Do you know where these two places are in India? After all, you are Indian, so you should know about these two places. If I ask you questions about Chattisgarh or the Seven Sister states, such as Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram; do you think you would know in depth information about these places? You probably wouldn't. In fact, Indians are even more unaware of the situation of their other states than the Pakistanis are about their provinces; I know this personally. In fact, I have more knowledge about the languages, culture and geography of most Indian states than most of the Indians I've met.

Some of the very easy names of the cities in Balochistan over the top of my head:

1. Quetta (the capital of Balochistan)
2. Ziarat (this is the place where Jinnah spent his final days. Historical significance)
3. Gwadar (the future mega city of Pakistan, deep seaport a few 100 kms from the Straits of Hormuz)
4. Taftan (On the border with Iran's city Zahedan)
5. Sibbi (on the Balochistan-Sindh border, on the Balochistan side. Famous for its hot weather)
6. Dera Murad Jamali (same as above)
7. Chaman (famous for its smuggling routes from Afghanistan, known for its porous border and being notoriously close to Kandahar in Afghanistan)
8. Dalbandin (a small rural village town, where the recent earthquakes took place, which were also felt in India. It was also near Dalbandin where Pakistan conducted its nuclear tests)
9. Chagai Mountains
10. The mountains with the recent coal mining, where the army intervened between rival tribes (can't remember its name). Close to North Eastern Balochistan I believe, where you had the Marri tribe competing with other Pashtun tribes.
11. Zhob

And I've only been to Balochistan (Quetta) once in my life, that too a long time ago.

well its not unsusual in south asia. the people are so occupied with their daily survivial that they have no time for these things. on top of that govt does also not help in educating common people abt these far flung places in country.

asl a normal UP or bihari uneducated farmer about places in northeast and i am sure he will be as ignorant as some people in the video.

Why are you targeting UP wallas and Biharis? Ask any Dilli walla about the South Indian states, what languages they have and stuff, or about the North East or Central/Eastern India (Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh etc); they'll be clueless. In fact, a Dilli walla might be clueless about everything Indian outside of Noida. He might know a bit about Punjab and Rajasthan though, but he might not know much about Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Jharkhand, Assam, West Bengal, Manipur, Mizoram, Orissa etc. I'm not talking about the poor people here, I am talking about the urban elite who choose to remain in their little 'holes' they have dug for themselves, so they can remain unaffected by the problems of their country. I know people from Ahmedabad who have not even been to Baroda, Surat, Rajkot and other cities in Gujarat, forget leaving the state. These are rich Indians, sons of factory owners and entrepreneurs, not peasant workers or farmers.

Trust me, despite whatever this video states, Pakistanis generally more about regions of Pakistan than Indians know about India. I can say this confidently with personal experience with both Pakistanis and Indians, and I still have family in both India and Pakistan. The knowledge of Pakistanis is really bad on the different other regions of Pakistan, but they know 'something' about their places, they've heard about those places. India is a huge country, its more like a continent, and there are many regions Indians have not even heard about. Despite the extremely poor local knowledge of Pakistanis, Indians are even worse in this regard. No bias or prejudice here in my observation.
