SL 60th on Human Capital Index 2014

The Philippines are doing very well as a developing Asian nation.. SL should ideally do well to emulate them
Sri Lanka should emulate Korea or Japan. Similar sized country and not much internal problem. Sri Lanka can develop its tourism industry to good Heights like that of of Singapore.

Both Korea and Japan are developed countries as it stands there are restrains for developing countries like SL to try and reach those lofty goals.. The Philippines are in a similar economic and development stage to SL.. Both Middle income countries trying to escape that middle income trap, So Thats achievable .. But Kudos to the Filipino's those are some impressive stats

Korea and Japan were poor once, keep the aim lofty so at least you can reach some of it. Sorry about preaching. :p::p::p:

Another advantage you people have is quite homogeneous population. That's a massive advantage, industrialization is the way forward and Sri Lanka should strive to be one industrialized country. Agriculture can not give long term growth.

Thats the 2013 report bro.. More countries were accounted for the 2014 report hence the lower rank

When India lost 12 rank, Srilanka 10 adding more countries in 2 years. Where Bangladesh lifted 11 rank. What significant changed.

Because they have grace of mighty USA.

The problem is not that India is on 100 or BD on 99. You should have said BD should emulate Sri Lanka, but you also said as BD should not become mini India. Please keep India out. You could have stated the same without naming India. As you people do not want anything to do with us, we also want the same. Believe me the feeling is mutual.

Leave it I was pulling legs. Revenge of what Indians always do :p:

Nah mate.. Any constructive suggestions or criticisms are appreciated.. Actually SL is not quite homogeneous.. If we were we wouldn't have had a 30 years of a debilitating civil war.. On the contrary It's quite diverse even given it's small size

SL aim is for a logistical and service hub..Keeping in tact the relatively well educated population and the emphasis on environmental protection that is vital for the tourist industry.. It's too smaller a base for industrial manufacturing.. Cannot compete with the likes of India and Bangladesh etc in terms of capacity or labor

If Bangladesh didn't have internal political problems then the growth would be far better! Stupid politicians, always their own personal interests and never the nations or peoples.

Yep true
Bangladesh could have performed even better if KZ wouldn't have created so much problems...
Anyways....it's nice to see the south Asians performing good

Well i was searching for news links actually
Philippines and many other SE Asian nations especially Vuetnam are good role models. They are quickly becoming the next wave of development.

SL 60th on global human capital index

Sri Lanka ranked 60th among 124 countries according to a survey conducted by the World Economic Forum (WEF) as those nations conducive to developing its human capital, particularly in the fields of education, skills development and deployment.

India 100th on global human capital index; Finland tops - The Economic Times
I hope we can catch upto Sri Lanka if not beat them. Healthy competition is something we shouldn't shy away from.

Wow Sri Lanka has done better than China. Congratulations
This is the main reason why Sri lanka is the only South Asian country that I respect apart
from India.
