Other people who watch it aren't laughing; this is where non-Chinese get their impression of PLA.

Koreans already proved their combat prowess in Vietnam.

Chinese on the other hand were cannon fodders in four consecutive conflicts.

Veterans from all four conflicts will testify that the PLA troops were highly ineffective and disorganized bunch who only understood two commands; "charge" and "retreat". Not one of the combatants who fought PLA would describe PLA as "brave and deadly" combat force. When all four opponents who battled PLA testifmony matches, that becomes the factural description of PLA.

Chinese nationalists can claim how brave and effective PLA was in past wars; the people who fought PLA disagree.

What matters is that there is a mechanism for protest by anyone for any cause, regardless of how ridiculous it may be, and the outcome of such protest can change not only the Korean government policy, but the US government policy as well. This is possible because Korea is a full democracy where the freedom of speech and the right to protest is protected. The free speech maybe too well protected so that all the pro-NKers and Japanese rightwingers flood Korean message boards, and they are not deleted.

This is something unthinkable in China.

That was before the year 1995. Nobody has been executed since 1998 for any crime(even serial and mass murderers), and death sentence simply means a life without a parole because death sentence is not carried out.
