Singapore and Indian Armies Conduct Artillery Exercise

January 17, 2011 The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and the Indian Army conducted the seventh bilateral artillery exercise, codenamed Exercise Agni Warrior, from 2 to 16 Jan 2011. Held in Devlali, India, this year's exercise involved soldiers from the 23rd and 24th Battalion, Singapore Artillery, as well as the Indian Army's 139 Medium Regiment.

During the exercise, which aimed to enhance mutual understanding and interoperability between the two armies, the SAF's Singapore Lightweight Howitzers (Pegasus) participated in a combined live-firing with the Indian Army's 155mm FH77 Field Howitzers on 16 Jan 2011. Chief of Artillery, Colonel (COL) Tan Chong Lee, witnessed the live-firing with the Indian Army's Commandant, School of Artillery, Lieutenant-General (LG) Gurdeep Singh. COL Tan also met with the SAF and Indian Army troops as part of his visit to the exercise.

The Agni Warrior series of annual exercises underscores the warm defence ties between Singapore and India. Aside from joint exercises, the SAF and the Indian Armed Forces also interact regularly through visits, courses, seminars and other professional exchanges.

This is a regular feature that the Singapore and Indian armies undertake.
Like the joint exercises held by the IAF and RSAF at Kalaikunda every year. The Air exercises are of interest to the IAF because they face off against the Singaporean F-16s, which helps the IAF pilots to hone their skills.
