Should Pakistan cut down the infantry

Majority of our army is foot soldiers based. But now it is different hi tech battle era, do we necessarily need so much infantry .. Isnt it better to replace it with more capable high tech force ?

a good and defiantly a viable option if u ask me i to am in the favour of reducing the infatory and replacing them with high tech technology as currently the trend through out the world

no, i would not suggest to cut down the size it has it's own advantage however i would say R&D on defence technology should be accelerated & vigorously persuade

Nope - We do need that kind of numbers - Keep in mind that India is increasing it's foot soldiers and we also get to face threat on Western Borders.We are not a rich country like USA where we can substitute foot soldiers with Fighter Jet, Drone and Dedicated Bombers.

India has at least 25 infantry divisions on the Pakistan border against Pakistan. Pakistan cannot afford to cut down on its infantry.

Infantry provide the footprint in a conflict, when the armor has punched through...they hold the ground.
The nature of asymmetric warfare in the FATA demands an emphasis on infantry.
What is needed is assessing the active duty infantry needs of the army and upgrading the capability of the PA infantry unit as a whole.. that is already taking place , while the former is also rumored to be on going.

nice farmer i must thank you that you opened very good topic here yes now soldiers cant keep up with tanks on foot they need something new yes we have saad type of vehicle to carry them but again we are not doing anything good for ourselves counting too much on one system is stupidity now 90 percent of forces uses tracked and wheeled APC to carry their soldiers directly in heart of war so they dont get killed before reaching the hot zone we need something like BTR 90 or stryker but made in pakistan

no man. foot infantry is very important part of our army. it is needed in mountainious terrain like tribal areas.
gradually Pakistan's Infantry battalions are changing into MIB ( mechanized infantry batallion ) having APCs.

MIB divisions are already there... and the training school is in nowshehra.

Abt Infantry upgrades... PA seriously needs MRAPs.... HIT should start mass producing the "Ababeel" or something MRAP.. we saw earlier.

Pakistan should increase Men in Special Ops Dept. Infact we need extremely well trained men who can be part of Pak Army Reserved Forces as well as regular Special Police SWAT Force dual role.

See what happened to the high tech army in a low low lowest tech afg---and even in iraq. If you just want to destroy the infra structure only---then it is fine----otherwise---to hold ground---you need feet on the ground.

reduce the "size" of the army to half, we dont need to maintain such expense and burden, hence pull the money from military and invest to strengthen police.

it will help change their mentality which provokes them to run over elected governments and also it will help bell the cat like Turkey has done it, and Egyptians are trying to.

You will shocked that Pakistan Police's budget is more than Pakistan Navy budget, one wonders PN is able to maintain Force and Fleet and variety of sophisticated equipment where as Pakistan Police is "sada gul" low tech martic pass or even matric fail people yet so where the heck budget is going there is no check and balance alone between $400M-500M or RS 39B-45B is the budget of Sindh Police if you calculate all over Pakistan it is well around $2.0Billion or even more yet our Police is ill equipt ill trained uneducated with no proper Offices, Training and so on.

So our current Army strength is good enough and required.
