MUMBAI: Following the Shiv Sena's diktat to boycott reality show 'Bigg Boss', several cable operators in the city have stopped beaming the channel.

Viewers in the city as well as Thane and Navi Mumbai complained that they couldn't watch 'Colors' from Wednesday afternoon as the channel had been blocked. Sena had threatened cable operators to block 'Colors' after the party failed to force the producers of 'Bigg Boss' from throwing out Pakistani artistes.

There are about 4.1 million homes in Mumbai with cable connections and if the channel is blacked out the viewership of Bigg Boss will take a beating by 15%, said experts
.

"It is on the instructions of Balasaheb Thackeray that the cable operators have been told to boycott the programme,'' Anil Parab of the Shiv Sena said, adding, "It is an open secret that Pakistan has blocked many Indian channels. So there's nothing wrong in asking cable operators in the city to block the channel that has hired Pakistani artistes. In fact, many operators have already started acting on our instructions."

While the Sena is claiming that they have been getting a "favourable" response, Ashok Mansukhani of Hinduja Cable denied any such reaction. He said, "I am only hearing it (the diktat) from the media. The party (Shiv Sena) has not issued any notice to us''

Ganesh Naidu, who is a member of the Cable Operators' Distribution Association (CODA), said, "We still haven't got any intimation on blacking out the channel. However, if the association takes any decision, we will have to adhere to it." There are about 2,000 CODA members, and Naidu was quick to add , "If Pakistan is blacking out our channels, then why should we promote channels that are promoting Pakistanis?''

"The MNS is maintaining a stoic silence on the issue but the Sena is keeping the protest alive," a source said.

While several Sainiks were detained for protesting outside the Lonavla house where the programme is being shot, some of them were arrested a day later for attacking crew members.

It is like Talibani diktats

Not a good scenario for Mumbai dwellers

shiv sena are a part of the indian system, shiv sena can have educated people integrated into mainstream india- they could be a policeman, or they could be a doctor, or they could be anything

taliban are overwhelmingly uneducated zealots - there is a big difference.

make it 'secular democratic India' and everybody has every right to criticize.

@ Topic: Don't worry guys, do din ka drama hai inka fir sab shaant ho jaayega.

every body indeed has a right to voice anger or objection but a private group closing down an Indian TV channels by force is against law.

Even if it is for two days then it proves Indian govt failed to exercise the law and is helpless in front of Saffron fanatics

Jana,
I agree that a political party should not force its views. The fact of the matter is in India they do force their views and I am not happy. I think it has to do with poor implementation of police system in India. When the cable operators do not follow they know they will be smashed and police will look for eveidence which will be hard to come.

How is the situation in Pakistan, do you have any Political party calling for bands etc which people do not want to follow. How does it work there?

I was not talking about right of shiv sena in that perticular post. you misunderstood me.

Even if it is for two days then it proves Indian govt failed to exercise the law and is helpless in front of Saffron fanatics

Don't worry, it will be only the govt. which will give these goons some bamboo.

It happens all the time in india.

we are still only an immature democracy you know.

yes had been having our share of parties calling for bands lolzz but these protest rallies' politics had died down in Pakistan and now our public dont come to streets that much even over religion these days.

Miandad apparently went begging to Bal Thackrey to take permission for India-Pak matches in Mumbai.

If you don't know something ask.

1) Shiv Sena appealed to cable operators to stop broadcast of Colors and they obliged as most of them are affiliated with Shiv Sena.
2) Colors is still on air on all DTH services. None of them have obliged to SS.

Shiv Sena asking and people obliging is not against law.

Most importantly you have no right to criticize.

Your countrymen have forced people not to listen to music as it is unislamic.

Your countrymen have forced people against the polio dose.

What your Government has done?

Glass houses and stones.

It again shows that if any want any big event in Mumbai he/she has to take permission from Shiv Sena militants as Indian Govt has no writ in the City and is helpless in front of saffron fanatics

 appealing and forcing by resorting to smashing and destroying business of cable operators and in other cases are two different things wide apart.

We have every right to criticise because Shiv Sena fanatics have done this on the pretext of presence of Pakistanis in the show

Glass houses and stones.

Most of those men who did that are called militants and not chief of a party in Pakistan. In other words you are trying to equate Shiv Sena Hindus with Taliban. quite right.

Kya jana ji.............pakistan mein baith ke bakwas bak rha hoon.....
