বর্তমানে বিশ্বের সবচেয়ে বড় ক্রিকেট স্টেডিয়াম অস্ট্রেলিয়ার মেলবোর্ন ক্রিকেট গ্রাউন্ড। ৯০ হাজার ধারণক্ষমতার স্টেডিয়ামটি বিশ্বের অন্যতম অত্যাধুনিক ও সুন্দর স্টেডিয়ামও। তবে এবার মেলবোর্নের চেয়েও বড় স্টেডিয়াম হতে যাচ্ছে বাংলাদেশে!
পূর্বাচলের আলোচিত সেই স্টেডিয়ামটি নিয়ে এখন আর কোনো দুশ্চিন্তা নেই বাংলাদেশ ক্রিকেট বোর্ডের। সম্প্রতি স্টেডিয়াম নির্মাণের জন্য রাজধানী উন্নয়ন কর্তৃপক্ষ (রাজউক) বিসিবিকে ৩৭ একর জায়গা বুঝিয়ে দিয়েছে। দেশের সর্বকালের সর্ববৃহৎ ক্রীড়া অবকাঠামোর দলিল ইতোমধ্যে বিসিবির কাছে হস্তান্তর করা হয়েছে।
এই ভবিষ্যৎ স্টেডিয়ামটি বিসিবির কাছে সহজলভ্য করে দেওয়ার পেছনে সবচেয়ে বড় অবদান যার, তার নামেই বোর্ড করবে স্টেডিয়ামের নামকরণ। মাননীয় প্রধানমন্ত্রীর একান্ত চেষ্টায় হতে যাওয়া এই স্টেডিয়ামের নাম হবে শেখ হাসিনা ক্রিকেট স্টেডিয়াম। ক্রীড়াপ্রেমি প্রধানমন্ত্রীর প্রতি কৃতজ্ঞতা প্রকাশ করতেই এমন দারুণ সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়েছে বাংলাদেশ ক্রিকেট বোর্ড।
পূর্বাচলে স্টেডিয়াম নির্মাণের জন্য বিসিবি পেয়েছে মোট ২২৫০ কাঠা জমি। আর এই বিপুল পরিমাণ জমির মূল্য ১১শ ২৪ কোটি ৭০ লক্ষ টাকা। তবে প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনা কাঠাপ্রতি মাত্র ১০০ লক্ষ টাকা প্রতীকী মূল্যে বিসিবির জন্য বরাদ্দ দিয়েছেন। এতে নামমাত্র খরচেই দেশের ক্রিকেট নিয়ন্ত্রক সংস্থাটি পাচ্ছে বিশ্বের অন্যতম বড় স্টেডিয়াম নির্মাণের সুযোগ।
বহুল আকাঙ্ক্ষিত এই স্টেডিয়াম নির্মাণে বিসিবির খরচ হবে ৮০০ কোটি টাকা। অত্যাধুনিক স্টেডিয়ামটিতে থাকবে পাঁচ তারকা হোটেল, সুইমিংপুল সহ আন্তর্জাতিক ক্রিকেটারদের সকল ধরনের সুবিধাদি।
অবশ্য ক্রিকেট পাড়ায় একেই বিশ্বের সবচেয়ে বড় স্টেডিয়াম বলে আখ্যা দেওয়া হচ্ছে। যদিও সম্প্রতি ভারতের আহমেদাবাদে ১ লক্ষ ১০ হাজার ধারণক্ষমতার একটি স্টেডিয়াম নির্মিত হচ্ছে। আপাতত পূর্বাচল স্টেডিয়ামের ধারণক্ষমতা ধরে রাখা হয়েছে ১ লক্ষ। সেক্ষেত্রে হয়ত মেলবোর্নকে ছাড়িয়ে গিয়েও বিশ্বের দ্বিতীয় বৃহত্তম ক্রিকেট স্টেডিয়ামের তকমা নিয়েই থাকতে হতে পারে শেখ হাসিনা ক্রিকেট স্টেডিয়ামকে।

Purbachal Stadium will be bigger than Melbourne
The Bangladesh Cricket Board has no worries about the stadium in Purbachal. Recently, the capital development authority (RAJUK) has given the BCB 37 acres of land for the construction of the stadium. The country's largest sports infrastructure has already been handed over to the BCB.
