PESHAWAR: The differences within the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leadership have become intense due to the prolonged sit-in in Islamabad. The division is sharpest on the issue of resignations, which has divided the party in two factions.

There already exists a dissident group in the KP assembly which is giving a tough time to Chief Minister Pervaiz Khattak. The number of this group in the assembly has now reached 18.

On condition of anonymity, a provincial minister said that they were fed up with the dharna (sit-in). He said they could not concentrate on official affairs and their constituencies as the public wanted a solution to their problems. He said several ministers, including himself, had tried to make Imran Khan agree to resolve all issues through talks and drop the option of the PM’s resignation. But Imran Khan was not ready to listen to anybody on this issue.

The provincial minister said the chief minister calls them daily on the phone to bring more men to the dharna. He said that after the no-confidence resolution, there was no option left for Imran but to dissolve the KP assembly while no member wanted to talk on the issue of resignations.

On the other hand, the stand of the rebellious members of parliament is that Imran Khan was playing a double game and they were being asked to submit their resignations while the chief minister KP and other members did not want to leave the government. They said their performance in KP was zero as the graph of the party was going down rapidly and a destructive defeat could be expected in the next elections. They said that the PTI had wasted the opportunity of making Khyber Pakhtunkhwa a model province.

PTI chief Imran Khan was facing extreme mental pressure due to the rebellion and he himself has admitted the split in the party.

The PTI members of parliament and party office bearers have stopped going to attend the sit-in which has made Imran Khan very angry and he has threatened to expel them from the party. The split started on the issue of resignations and moved beyond D-Chowk.

Earlier, three members of the National Assembly from KP, Gulzar Khan, Nasir Khattak and Musarrat Ahmadzeb, had announced their rebellion by refusing to resign and after that Qaisar Jamal and Khayal Zaman had also refused to do so.

MNA Gulzar Khan said that Imran Khan had adopted a dictatorial style and did not consult anybody and was not ready to hear about their refusal to resign. He said if the speaker summoned members of parliament, then several members would refuse to resign.

After that the party will split, he added. He said that was the reason Shah Mehmood Qureshi did not meet the speaker. He said the number of members of parliament who did not want to resign had touched 10.

All other political parties of KP are strongly targeting the PTI. JUI-F Senator Haji Ghulam Ali said the PTI was holding dance parties in Islamabad instead of showing its performance in KP.

He said the issues of the province were rising day by day, while the PTI had staged a dharna in the capital. He said Imran Khan had no concern with the IDPs while the sit-in was being staged on the cost of official resources. Gulam Ali said the public would reject PTI in the next elections.

ANP Senator Nabi Bangash said the drama of resignations was being staged to exert pressure on the government while the majority of members were not in favour of resignations. Shah Mehmood Qureshi, he said, has addressed the joint session of parliament in spite of submitting resignations.

He said the dharna politics of Imran had failed and he should return home. He said the PTI had got 7.6 million votes in the elections but even 76,000 people did not attend the dharna in Islamabad and this showed the reality of PTI’s popularity graph.

This news deserves more attention than it seems to be getting. Imran Khan losing KPK would be a heavy blow to Imran Khan's political com back in future. Perhaps one of the major issues being discussed these days is whether the KPK govt under PTI will be allowed or not.
PS. Javed Hashmi said in one of his interviews a few days ago that the CM of KPK told IK that the CM didn't want to resign! What a party!!

What a party? well these rifts happen in all the parties. Forward groups have not been formed in PML (N and Q) or PPP, JUI (F and S) or more recently in ANP? Being a Pakistani political party, PTI wont be much different. It is obvious that certain members don't want to resign and for good reasons. Lots of time, energy, and money is spent in the elections, and resigning like this would be very distasteful for many. Like many here, I always thought that IK should have focused on his party's performance in KPK, tried to develop KPK as a model province, and contest next election based on his party's performance in KPK. However, Khan saheb being Khan saheb, opted for a different route. Today there is nobody who can really defend his fateful decisions.

Ditto. Glad you and I are on same page on this one.,

But I will say maintain that I had (and possibly you too?) expected a party of REAL change to have at least recruited better candidates who would not desert the leadership at the FIRST sign of stress? I am saddened and frankly surprised by the level of defections in a party of 'change' so much, and so early. So not only Imran Khan has picked 'Barsati Maindaks' (fair weather friends) as his party legislators but also surrounded himself with the likes of Sheeda Tilli, Ch. Brothers, and even G.M. Khar (Khar?!) amongst other shady characters.

If I were to give advice to IK, I'd tell him to DUMP all these bad eggs AND Qadri. Explain and apologize to the masses. Salvage KPK govt.. Control his foul mouth and START FRESH! That is his best and perhaps the only chance left.

I 100% agree with you. Anybody with sane mind, and sincere to Pakistan would agree with you. Though he should not stop talking about the rigging, and try to get the masses on his side so the government brings about real and tangible electoral reforms.

It is hard to touch the people with the issues Imran khan has raised. He will slowly loose the people support what he has right now. Mr. Sharif has hit a master stroke by letting Imran khan continue his agitation. Slowly enthusiasm will fed up and people will disperse. The maturity Mr. sharif has shown in handling the protest is commendable. Believe me any other people will think twice before starting these sort of nonsense agitation.

There are more than a few people who think that PAT/PTI should not have been even allowed into Islamabad. Indeed, the knee-jerk reaction of Sharifs were to stop and hence Model Town murders happened--although I am not going to put blame on them directly yet;
But the advice given to Sharifs--especially by PPP-was to allow into ISB but outside of the Red Zone. PPP is a status quo party and is 'enjoying' Sindh govt, is not ready for re-elections (TTP threats; PPP internal re.organization etc). Similarly, the rest of the Parliament is status-quo. PTI SHOULD HAVE been status quo knowing the other status-quo parties AND knowing PTI's own fragile position in KPK assembly.
The 2013 elections gave a PERFECT political environment to all major ethnic and political forces of Pakistan.

Anyway, NS is not a democrat by heart. Mr. Zardari is a democrat by heart--perhaps the best in Pakistan with the possible exception of the Amir of Jamaat e Islami.

PS. Sorry, rambling post. Time to call it a night here. Monday morning work ahead. Sigh!

There are lots of moles and opportunists in PTI. Just look at that lota Sheeda Talli for instance. And who can forget Javed Hashmi, elected president of PTI. Problem with PTI is not IK but all those weak minded power hungry politicians that joined the party after it suddenly gained massive public approval rating in late 2011.

Although I do agree that IK made serious mistake by trusting these moles and opportunists as true PTI ideologists, he even made bigger errors by approving pre-election setup whose under recent rigged election became a reality. I think he became overconfident of his party's massive support and completely ignored the realities on the ground that is PMLN's decades of experience in winning elections through rigging and cheating. Qadri's party PAT boycotted the elections outright as they knew everything was as corrupt as before and all those promises PPP made with him during his 3 day sit-in in Islamabad were wasted in vain.

Islamabad Long March Declaration was to guarantee free and fair elections by not allowing any corrupt candidate from standing in elections. This however failed completely when Election Commission allowed tried and tested goons and thugs of PMLN to contest in 2013 elections as well as corruption masters of PPP. Thus guaranteeing theft of people's mandate back to known thieves and looters of this nation.

If I were to give advice to IK, I'd tell him to DUMP all these bad eggs AND Qadri.
Had Islamabad Long March Declaration implemented and followed by outgoing majority party PPP, there wouldn't be any need for current sit-ins today. But since Noora Kushti is better for both PMLN and PPP, no real change came through this landmark declaration.

PTI SHOULD HAVE been status quo knowing the other status-quo parties AND knowing PTI's own fragile position in KPK assembly.
Why? Why do you expect PTI to follow other status quo looter and corrupt parties? In fact, they should have never taken power in KPK when clear evidence of rigging surfaced days after the the election.
