The State Department should press Pakistan to stop the flow of dangerous chemicals that are used to make the roadside bombs that are killing U.S. and allied troops in Pakistan and Afghanistan, 20 U.S. senators wrote to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

"We are writing to request that you encourage Pakistani officials to stem the flow of ammonium nitrate into Afghanistan where it is used in improvised explosive devices to kill U.S. troops," states the May 23 letter, led by Sens. Robert Casey (D-PA) and Carl Levin (D-MI). "IEDs have also increasingly become a problem in Pakistan and we urge you to stress this common threat in your meetings with Pakistan's civilian and military leaders."

The State Department hasn't announced whether Clinton will visit Pakistan this month, as was scheduled before the raid that killed Osama bin Laden, but an administration official told The Cable that the trip is on. The dates are being held from the public due to security concerns.

Clinton was supposed to lead the third round of the U.S.-Pakistan Strategic Dialogue, which is meant to advance the bilateral relationship. Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Marc Grossman traveled to Islamabad last week to help set up the talks, but he was also there to press Pakistan to announce goodwill gestures following the discovery of bin Laden in Abbottabad. Clinton's trip will also likely be a mix of both missions.

Specifically, the senators want Pakistan to pass legislation regulating bomb-making chemicals, step up customs enforcement on the Afghan border, and increase public education on the dangers of ammonium nitrate.

"In the wake of the killing of Osama bin Laden, we believe that Pakistan must implement concrete measures, to counter terrorism. Removing ammonium nitrate from the terrorist arsenal is one such good faith measure that is also in Pakistan's national security interest," the senators wrote.

Yups ...

Pakistan should also stem the flow of grain, medicine, and cloth which is smuggled into Afghanistan.

Moreover Pakistan shall also walk out of the "free for all" transit trade agreement allowing Afghanistan to import any thing Via Pakistan's ports and roads at the cost of almost nothing !

So Pakistani ammonium nitrate is used for bombs and amonium nitrate from other countries can not?
Who knew exporting materials for fertilizer could be so dangerous ?

Any credible sources, please ?

Did I miss something ???:pop:

its a big shame for us to even let her come here . really our puppets lost every thing for money . not even 5% Pakistanis now want to see her face here .but yes slaves of top brass will feel proud to kiss her feet .

The chemicals are sold by private dealers and distributors who treat each customer equally. What the customer does with his purchased goods is not the matter of concern for the dealer or distributor.
We should rather eliminate the hands encouraging people to engage in terrorist activities.

Ammonium Nitrate is fertilizer, the lot that is bought legit cannot be stopped from crossing the border because it becomes ownership of who ever is carrying it. In the second case, if it is being smuggled, then we can't do anything about it because if we could, it wouldn't have been going out of the country without duty. So what do these people EXPECT us to do ?

it's like saying stop the production of acid, because it is used by misguided people to attack women

''misguided'' or ''irresponsible'' hands are to blame......the material itself is just fine when used for the right purposes. By the way, aren't Americans arming Libyans to the teeth at the moment? Didn't they also arm Afghans a few decades back? Where's the logic in this statement

OK, I accept it but convince international community aswell...

the NATO chief is on record saying that despite concerns, our stockpile is safe. Def. Sec. Gates said the same thing. Many officials have said the same thing. So bury the issue and leave it.

indians of all people are in absolutely NO position to be trolling, given the fact that computers from nuclear facilities have been smuggled out of the premises. Worry about your own house before attempting to butt into others' business which is absolutely NONE of your concern

hope it cleared things out

Armed them to the teeth then left 6.3 million of them(registered, original number est 8million) for us to sustain on our fragile economy and if that wasn't enough they slam the pressler amendment on us. These AKs, the drugs, the terrorism, it is all a reminder of that era, if anything good came out of the 80s, it was the introduction of the naan to Pakistan.

why are they trying to trace the origin of every bad stuff that happens in the world back to Pakistan?Big game:agree:

Our indian lobby in washington pays these senators cash to give such statements..its the hard-earned cash of indians that goes down the drain to fuel big game:undecided:

NATO walas should be more worried about the Dragon mines which are used for IEDs -- those use i believe shaped-charge explosives which can penetrate most armour

those are coming from Iran I believe.....maybe they can find a way to fabricate lies about Pakistan providing those too. :)
