I think they just mean it will be easier to generate electricity for future electric cars.

While that may be true, 'Oil' itself need not be sourced only from natural sources. Even solar energy can be used to convert Greenhouse gases to OIL both by using chemical processes and by biological media such as algae.

Since Oil in its chemical form is one of the most compact and efficient ways of storing energy, we might probably move from using Natural Oil to using a synthetically produced one.

So the threat being talked about, is only to 'Natural' oil.

while the technology is useful, i find the applications they suggest to be typically establishment capitalist american ( cell phone, tall glass-fronted office buildings ) which assume that the present capitalist/consumerist system will exist in ten years time.

what if adoption of socialism deems present american-style commercial skyscrapers to be obsolete, ugly and anti-human, going in instead for west-asian/african architecture which is quite graceful and does not suggest capitalism... what if rigid-faced radio-frequency two-way communication consumerist devices are declared useless/harmful-to-society and banned...

however, "vertical farm" is one place where a large glass covering is needed so this technology is useful there.

The applications are practically endless from rooftops/windows of buildings/transit stations to even agricultural fields in places where there is too much sunlight!

I am actually amazed that it took so long for somebody to come up with see-through solar panels considering that both glass and PV panels have silicon as basic material.

Capitalism doesn't have a monopoly on tall buildings. There's plenty of tall buildings in China and Russia.
You'd be surprised how socialist the US is compared to Russia or China.
I bet 99.99% of the people in the US live in buildings less than 3 stories tall....probably well under the average of most high population countries.

Living in a situation like this is far more common than living in some city apartment building.

And people already have complaints about cell phone device dangers...

Even the majority of the population lives in the forest areas.

This is what it typically looks like outside the skyscraper edge. There's houses under those trees.

This is why people like it here...it's pretty nice living! Need a car though if you need anything.

This is NOT the US. Maybe NYC may have something similar....but that's an exception..
