Saudi Arabia working to remove Sudan from U.S. state sponsors of terrorism list

OCTOBER 6, 2019

DUBAI (Reuters) - Saudi Arabia is working to remove Sudan from the United States’ list of state sponsors of terrorism, a Saudi foreign ministry tweet said on Sunday.

The tweet followed a meeting in Riyadh between King Salman and the head of Sudan’s transitional sovereign council Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and prime minister Abdalla Hamdok.

The designation as a state sponsor of terrorism dates back to 1993, over allegations that former President Omar al-Bashir’s Islamist government was supporting terrorism. A transitional government was installed in August following months of protests that led to the military ousting Bashir.

Inclusion on the list makes Sudan ineligible for desperately needed debt relief and financing from lenders like the International Monetary Fund and World Bank. Removal would potentially open the door for foreign investment.

A senior U.S. official said in August that the country would test the commitment of Sudan’s new transitional government to human rights, freedom of speech and humanitarian access before it agrees to remove the country from the state sponsor of terrorism list.

Hamdok said last month he had held useful talks with U.S. officials on the topic and expressed hope that an agreement could be reached “very soon.”

Saudi Arabia is also working on initiating investments in Sudan and improving existing projects, the tweet said, adding that Sudan was seeking Saudi Arabia’s support in international forums and wanted to provide an environment for investment and expand its agricultural sector.

Soon after Bashir was toppled in April, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates announced $3 billion worth of aid in the form of a deposit to the central bank, food, medicine, and petroleum products.

Good news

Hopefully, US and West in general will remove Sudan from that list. The designation unfairly targeted Sudan as they were subjected to sanctions and other destabilization schemes, including certain angles funding the rebel groups that were fighting against the government in Darfur, and of course the partition of Sudan.

This poor nation sacrifice alot. They don't deserve such punishments. Biggest dilemma was creation of South Sudan. And muslim world was sleeping as usual.

Good news

Brotherly and sisterly Sudan is firmly allied with KSA. Our Sudanese brothers have fought successfully and perished alongside their brothers in Yemen in the fight against terrorism and to liberate the last remaining terrorist cult strongholds in Northwestern Yemen.

KSA has assisted Sudan strongly in its recent hard times and has pledged full support.

Some deluded Ajamis in the neighborhood, think that they can meddle in the Arab region and that they can play a greater role than the Arabs. That never happened and will never happen.

Tiny Qatar is slowly backtracking as well. Which leaves Libya which will eventually be ruled by 1 entity as well. This meddling only occurs in Arab countries that undergone internal problems (civil wars) otherwise those nobodies (in comparison to Arabs on every front) cannot even lift a finger but they think that they are mighty and important! Will be further Arabized!
