We have 4 Different Civilian Transport Aircraft Projects Underway.... 3 under NAL namely Saras, RTA-70, RTA-90 and One Under HAL which is the Civilian Version of MRTA

Sept 9/10: A shareholders agreement is signed to set up the MRTA’s joint venture company, between India’s Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Russia’s United Aircraft Corporation (UAC), & Russia’s Rosoboronexport arms export agency.

India’s defense ministry pegs the total development cost at around US $ 600.7 million (approx. Rs. 2900 crore), to be equally shared by both the sides. The joint venture will be based in Bangalor, india, and aims to produce 205 aircraft (45 India, 100 Russia, 60 hoped-for exports), with 50:50 work share between HAL and the Russian partners.

I've a feeling that, there might not be enough takers in the Indian market. As most of our airliners love to knock the doors of Boeing and Air-bus for their requirements. Maybe it'll be confined to govt. requirements only.

I've a feeling that, there might not be enough takers in the Indian market. As most of our airliners love to knock the doors of Boeing and Air-bus for their requirements. Maybe it'll be confined to govt. requirements only.

As of now we do not have any of our Aircraft in the Civil Aviation sector , So how can You juddge we would have any takers, Indian Civil Aviation Industry is being predicted to double or even triple in the coming decade, If We manage to make RTA and MRTA series successfully why not? They need not rely on Boing or Airbus for maintainence when it can be done cheaply in HAL or NAL and Spare parts would be easily available.... It saves them 50% of there maintenance cost....

The private operators have a valid reason to hesitate from buying these as these will take many years before FOC and also NAL does not have the same track record as the other manufacturers do(no offense) and in all probability,these would become obsolete even before induction(my opinion and is not intended to poke fun @ the scientists at NAL)

Exactly, NAL needs to prove itself as an Independent Innovator and Manufacturer of Aircrafts, Rather JV with HAL,ISRO and Mahindra

on topic, NAL Saras can find big demand from the growing number of private jet owners, and can be a good alternative for less profitable routes for budget airliners. Hope the turbo prop will be replaced by jet engines, that looks weird.
