Navy wont do it if it would have been the army or air force they would have been doing this. Navy is the only branch that has the full capabilities to make destroyers ac subs and every thing at home navy spends the least in foreign equipments

fine not 4 maybe 6???? atleast it would be a new carrier. And the 1st carrier delays will not plague the successive carriers. It was much better option compared to Gorky that even lacks in the Mig complement. CDG has much more punch in it. we had to go to Russians cause we couldn't build both in India which is a pity we should have atleast 2 shipyards capable of constructing Carriers.

And I hate to admit it but a second hand, 45k tonne, ex-helicopter carrier, with 16 Mig complement with 10 years post delivery warranty The Gorky has been a rip off and how long do u expect it to be in service it was launched somewhere in the 80s????

Know your history. Gorshkov was free when it was offered.

The condition was either buy MiG-29K or Su-33 and pay for the refit.

Considering that fact we had plans for our brand new carrier and Viraat was due to her retirement this was a cheap stop gap.

It was supposed to be delivered by 2009.

However Russians spoiled the party by demanding more money and delays due to which the cost of the carrier went to almost new one and the arrival date is now almost with IAC-1.

Please read what I wrote. French took 12 years to deliver CDG and even after its commission the ship had problems and had to be overhauled again.

CDG has much more punch in it.

You are forgetting basics.

CDG is nuke powered. You just dont replace reactors with boilers and turbines. Its not that easy. So need R&D and more time.
CDG is designed to make something like Nimitz which can carry fighters, helo's as well as planes like E-2. What the Indian Navy have beyond Helo's and Harriers and MiGs?
CDG comes with catapults where as Harriers and MiG-29K require Ski-Jump.

CDG costs €3 billion. Even if you make it a non nuke how much it would cost to Indian Navy?

Agree with the rip off part. However that is what it is supposed to be. A stop gap between Viraat and IAC-1.

so what if the carrier is delayed a bit..... Earlier reports had it coming by 2012 end , now its 2013....no big deal.
As for the price- name another carrier of this class at the same or lesser price....
Bashing russians is so easy for some people, but they refuse to understand that things like these happen all the time..... Look at the delays in scorpene subs- supposed to come by 2010 but now its 2015, iac 1- earlier reports had it being launched by 2011-now its 2014, f-insas- god knows when it will come. Shivalik frigates, hal tejas,arjun mbt..... The list goes on.
