Because they are in a state of war and quick artificial trainings and incorporation is just not going to do it ? Do you know how long it takes to estabilish an effective AD system with proper efficiency from all the state branches ?

The Syrians managed to shoot down our F-16, albeit in a massive 20 missile barrage. This is still an achievement.

One man's success or failure on the ground does not reflect upon his air defenses. If we lost as you claim we did against Hezbollah does that mean Iran can freely fly above Israel?

this is an s-200 missile, they are not meant to target fighter jets but bombers. no country would put that many s-200 in a region. the true number was 4 if i remember correctly and not for a single f-16, they were targeting your whole flying group of 4 planes. the one f-16 was not that lucky as the rest of group.

If the Russians were operating those Syrian AD units the story would have been much more different. Use common sense.

1) Typical S-200 position has 12 launchers:

Around Damascus there were 2 such positions.

2) S-200 is designed to shot down any planes, including fighter jets.

3) They fired ~20 S-200 missiles at 8 F-16 jets, managed to hit 1.

4) The prime reason for their success was that Israel did not expect attack deep inside Israel. For 30 years they never used it. Israel in return was not targeting Syrian AD.

After this incident rules of game have changed. Israel started targeting AD systems. S-200 were destroyed less than in a hour. At least 5 Pantsir systems were destroyed later on.

Yes my bad. 27 missiles to be exact, fired at the group of F-16s. From what I understood it was a pilot mistake, he was hit on the way back to base in Israeli territory, caught off guard.
