Russia offers India commercial aircraft production unit

Russia has offered India a joint production venture of Russian-Ukrainian commercial aircraft.

A team of visiting Russian aviation industry representatives discussed with officials of the India Commerce Ministry the possibility of launching the proposed production unit in India, Ria Novosti said quoting an unnamed official.

“Russians requested us to help them find a good partner for setting up a manufacturing unit for production of regional jets, including AN-148,” the official said.

AN-148 is a modern regional aircraft designed for passenger, cargo-passenger and cargo transportation on domestic and international routes.

The aircraft was designed by Antonov Aeronautical Scientific and Technical Complex. The aircraft manufacturing is carried out under license at JSC “Voronezh Aircraft Manufacturing Company” (VASO JSC), Voronezh, Russia.

India and Russia share a long standing strategic partnership and the two countries are involved in many military hardware joint ventures.

The two nations on Thursday signed a protocol agreement to jointly design and develop fifth generation fighter aircraft and multi-role transport aircraft.

India as of now is not producing any passenger jets and Western majors have the major market share in long and middle range airplanes in the country.

Not clear whether full aircraft or just parts of it! If full aircraft than HAL should consider it along with private companies. HAL is heavily booked now.

This is AN-148....

totally with you , since the begining the of civilian aviation we are only buying but this is our chance to make so i would say dont screw this india. we will we able to get tech, manufacturing units and able to create jobs in india. the number of travelers by air will be manifold in next 10 years which will increase the demand of more air buses so keeping that in mind we need to invest now. if they release a ipo after a deal i going to buy lot of shares.

Way better than the expensive learjets we are buying from western countries. We revolutionize this opportunity to make air travel more cheaper for domestic fliers.

So you want to produce some parts of a foreign aircraft, or have our own? ;)

@SANCHO
Whats the problem in doing both. Even if they want us to make some sub-systems,it will be good for our industry..
