I am not saying nuclear subs are useless. they don't help with naval air power.
if you are fighting Argentina over falklands how does it help ?
or if you are helping vietnam to defend islands against china ?

Tu-142s and Il-38s are great at long range naval aviation. but if naval fighter gets within range it is toast. it is too slow and too big a target to defend
