Russia is deploying nuclear-capable Tu-160 Blackjack bombers to Venezuela this week as part of an increasingly provocative pattern of bomber training flights, according to American defense officials.

At least two Blackjacks will fly from a strategic forces air base in Russia to Venezuela as part of a series of training exercises that will include long-range refueling, said officials familiar with Russian plans for the flight.

The bomber foray to South America will be Russia's seventh training flight for Blackjack bombers in the past three months.

Mark Schneider, a former Pentagon official and specialist on the Russian military, said Tu-160 flights are unusual and increasing.

"There were six announced Tu-160 flights of the ‘provocative' type during the last three months, which is a lot," Schneider said.

The most recent incident took place near Norway in late October when Tu-160s were shadowed by British and Norwegian jet fighters over the Barents Sea.

Norwegian F-16 Jets Shadowed Russian Tu-160s en Route to Venezuela

December 11, 2018

Two Russian Tu-160 strategic bombers, an An-124 heavy-lift military transport aircraft and an IL-62 plane have carried out a flight from Russia to Venezuela, landing at the Simon Bolivar International Airport in capital Caracas, the Russian Defense Ministry said Monday.

Russian Tu-160 strategic bombers were shadowed by F-16 fighter jets of the Norwegian Air Force at certain stages of their flight to Venezuela, the Russian Defense Ministry said Monday.

"At certain stages of the flight, the Tu-160 bombers were followed by F-16 fighter aircraft of the Norwegian Air Force while the flight was carried out in strict accordance with the international rules on the use of airspace," the ministry's press service said in a statement.

The ministry earlier reported that two Russian Tu-160 strategic bombers landed on December 10 at the Simon Bolivar International Airport in Venezuelan capital of Caracas.

According to the ministry, the flight was conducted over the Atlantic Ocean, the Barents Sea, the Sea of Norway and the Caribbean Sea. The planes have flown a distance of over 10,000 kilometers (about 6,213 miles).

"The flight was carried out in strict accordance with the international regulations on the use of airspace," the ministry said in a statement.

If there's revolution, Russia send soldiers there and shoot them. No more revolution. Like in Syria.

Russia cannot try any of the barbarism they practice in the Middle East in latin america

Countries like Brazil, Argentina, Mexico and Colombia will punish them. Those countries have a GDP and population greater than Russia. This is not going into what USA may decide to do

No? Russians shoot people who revolt. Like they did in Syria. Latin Americans are much meeker than Arabs.
