The Russian company Ross Atom has opened a branch in Saudi Arabia to participate in the competitive process of building a nuclear power plant.
In details, the company said in a statement at the sixth meeting of the Joint Russian-Saudi Committee on Trade, Economic and Scientific Cooperation. Alexander Novak, Minister of Energy, confirmed Russia's intention to develop active cooperation with Saudi Arabia in the peaceful use of nuclear technology and announced the opening of a branch from Ross Atom Overseas to Riyadh.
The statement adds that Ross Atom Overseas will promote the proposal to build a nuclear power plant with large and small capabilities, as well as the Center for Nuclear Science and Technology in Foreign Markets.
Earlier this month, Alexei Lekhachyov, chairman of the company, proposed in Moscow to build a nuclear power plant in Saudi Arabia based on 3G + VVER-1200 technologies.
The Russian news agency "Sputniknews" quoted Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak as saying that Russia was considering the creation of four nuclear units in Riyadh to produce electricity, and that the contract has not been signed yet, but that they are getting closer to it.
Saudi Arabia and Russia are discussing investments worth tens of billions of dollars and will soon be implemented, including in the field of chemicals for gas and oil. Investments and signing of an agreement to facilitate entry visas for citizens of both countries.
