I think they should do more than just collect the garbage every week.

1. This should be expanded to businesses. This should include a charge for public bins on the streets outside businesses.

2. Everyone should be issued with recycling bins too. Plastic, glass and metal should go in one bin, biodegradable waste into another, paper into a third and all other waste into a 4th.

Everything that can be recycled should be, this should be big business. Everything else, burn to generate electricity, not throw into landfill. Just make sure the incinerators are in remote areas.

Our property tax covers all this. Property tax is for municipal government which has the authority to oversee garbage disposal. It's not a job for Federal or even Provincial government.

And people are SUPPOSE TO BE the ones sorting out items i.e recyclable, organic and garbage. Its not hard work, its the least people can do.

As I said it is an input for them so definitely they make money from it or at least they break even. Furthermore, people are doing the hard work of sorting the items and make it easier for the machines the process and sort further...But I'm not sure how it in Canada.
