I haven't read through the whole thread but should they also submit tenders to other companies to see what deal they could give us as well as settling the $6billion. Who would turn down $6billion unless they knew they would make a hell of a lot more.

Two things
1) The earning potential remains to be seen
2) "The Company" (shell) had been willing to work on renegotiated terms from the start of the litigation. This is not a new development and not based on "some form of trust" rather it speaks of the malicious way the whole deal was constructed to swindle Pakistan of its fair share. TCC had no risk going into litigation even if the Company had lost they would've paid $0. TCC is not under Pakistani jurisdiction but Australian and currently has only done a survey.

Its not only about profit.
Its about how that company never allowed Pakistanis there and smuggled gold out of the area without even telling Pakistanis about total output.

I agree with you that mining companies are notorious for corruption and siphoning profits but a negotiated settlement is the only option left - hopefully a settlement will deal with issues of potential corruption and revenue sharing. However Pakistan should start terminating/renegotiating these bilateral investment treaties, a lot of which are just risky liabilities compared to the amount of FDI they (don't) attract.

Tethyan Copper Company (TCC) was approached by a financial team empowered by Prime Minister Imran Khan to negotiate an out of court settlement on the $ 6 billion penalty imposed by The International Center of Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID). Reportedly, the company has agreed to waive off the penalty if it is given a chance to invest in Reko Dik extraction project again (even on the new terms of the contract).

Bad news. The company was involved in corruption worth billions of dollars. Unless proper check and balance is kept on them, it should not be allowed to work again in Pakistan irrespective of the cost. They looted billions of dollars from this nation with the help of the corrupts.
