I knew about the latter but not the first bit ...good to know ...such should be what the one running the country (Blair/ NS or whoever) should be doing! But doesnt mean I have to like his policies :P

These leaders may not have good foreign policies when it come to other countries but one thing is true that they treat all people who live in this country fairly and give equal respect and dignity to their religious beliefs

Yes that much I do respect that they have rights for citizens....Something Asian countries seem to be lacking ....

Though mind you I dont like the "equal opportunities form"...seriously if it is equal...then you shouldnt ask ethinicity and break it down to Asian Pakistani/ British or whatever

They asked this data strictly for statistical/information purposes for example how many people from different races and ethnicities are living/working in uk. Its also for government data requirements and company use it against a future racial or age discrimination suit. These data also use for race/ethnic related information i.e What is the mortality/birth rate of particular race/ethnicity? What is their percentage in different government department . What disease is common in certain races? etc There would be no way to assure fair and equal standard is maintained at the company/work place without such data. Its all part of discrimination laws which is good thing :)

This is already done when we enter the country with the visa sponsored by the education body or the employer!
Its fine to tick Aisan does one have to split it further to Pakistani Asian or something...and I am also talking about private non Govt related companies :)
