Taiz - Asharq Al-Awsat

Qatari propagandists put old video footage back in circulation to mislead viewers into believing Houthi militia false claims of advancing into Saudi Arabia’s southwestern city of Al Khubah, which is nestled in Jazan region near the border with Yemen.

Fake news vigilantes and well-informed sources, however, confirmed that the footage dates back to 2014, and that it featured Saudi riot control taskforces in action, not Houthi gunmen entering the city.

The Yemeni army rejected Houthi claims of logging sweeping advances towards the border with Saudi Arabia.

“Information dealt by militia media outlets are baseless,” Brigadier General Abdo Abdullah Majali told Asharq Al-Awsat, explaining that Houthis are claiming fake victories to mask setbacks that their ranks incurred recently on several battlefronts.

Houthis have been losing ground near Saada governorate.

“Air strikes carried out by the Yemeni armed forces in Saada confused Houthis,” Majali said.

Confounded by successive defeats, Houthi coup leaders sought to boost combatant morale by spreading rumors about the Iran-backed militia staging military offensives near the border with Saudi Arabia.

Speaking on the many blows suffered by Houthis, Majali said: “The militias are desperate to cover up their multiple failures in direct confrontations with army forces in many locations, most notably in Saada, where the national army now controls more than 60 percent of provincial terrain.

“The army has cordoned off Saada, and has access to its mainland,” Majali asserted.

“Air strikes and army advances threw Houthis off balance and triggered widespread militant leadership withdrawal, but scaled up their propaganda operations.”

When qataris will grow?

Well, they (Qatari leadership) can only grow wiser because they have little potential for growth elsewhere and certainly in terms of size (I know that it is said that size does not matter but that is only consolation for the "smaller ones") they will always have an gigantic complex the size of KSA.

NEOM project (larger than Qatar), several of the many new projects, the world's biggest solar park (almost the size of Qatar), several national parks already larger than Qatar etc.

You can call that entity (Al-Thani family since 1995) for a cancer within the body. Ever since they invited the Americans and created their propaganda channel Al-Jazeera. Plotting and trying to make their size "bigger" without much use.

I just hope that old and ugly fat cow (half Indian) Hamad bin Khanzeer will end up with a rifle up his behind like the mentally ill Gaddafi criminal.

No bad words for Qataris (the people) who are our brothers and sisters. I just feel sad for their blind regime followers who cannot see their treason and cancerous behavior. They will eventually wise up, I have no doubt about it but the question is, how much damage will they do before that happens?

The US/West is playing a double game and protecting them from us. Creative thinking is needed if this continues for many years. Either you kill the cancer cell/remove it (if you want to use a "nicer" word) or the patient dies or gets really, really sick.

Al-Jazeera is basically a 24/7 propaganda channel against KSA. They are doing a better job than all Iranian Mullah regime media and Erdogan-controlled Turkish state media combined.

You guys should get out of Yemen and let them do what they want with their country. It's a quagmire and it will go on for years.

Qatar's Aljazeera have become a terrorist supporter news agency. They were recently caught pants down supporting some Pishteen Terrorist movement terrorists as right group workers.

Every body do that ,didn't others showed white helmet as right group activists or didn't USA portrayed terrorist movement like mko and some Kurdish terrorist group in Syria and Iraq as freedom fighters?

I see big maps but no big men.
If Saudi and UAE are so big and mighty why not invade tiny Qatar?
What's stopping you?

Saudi Arabians and Emiratis (not sure why you are mentioning the UAE) are the tallest people in the MENA region on average. Historically and in terms of achievements I don't need to elaborate much either. Giants is the right word to use here.

What a messed up logic. How do you think KSA would fare against the might of the US? A country that has no equals in the world? You are saying this as a Pakistani. Your situation would be no different. Unless you have suddenly become an American in such a case I would give you the benefit of the doubt.

Who says that KSA wanted to "invade" Qatar? Change regimes? Probably. That can be done without an invasion. However every idiot knows that the US has no interest (or any powers in the world) to allow KSA to turn into a bigger regional power and hegemon. Imagine KSA incorporating all the countries on the Arabian peninsula? Control of over 50% of the world's oil and gas. Trillions upon trillions worth of natural resources and mineral wealth. KSA is already the leader in the Muslim world on that front mind you.

Another thing I want to remind you of. KSA has had a continuous (5-10 billion USD annual trade surplus each year at the lowest) trade volume with the US for 50+ years. Few if any country has had that to such an extent. So "daddy" is hardly the word here. More like a very good ally and partner from the perspective of KSA.

If anything Qataris are the cowards here as they know that they would not stand 1 hour against KSA if THEIR US daddy left the LARGEST US base in the region.

Says who? Some Iranian troll on a Pakistani defense forum?

Last time I checked we did not need any "permission" to embark on the biggest military operation that the MENA region has seen in years. Headed by no other than KSA. Now controlling 85% of the Yemeni landmass (a country of 30+ million and almost the size of Iraq and Syria combined with predominantly mountainous terrain) and all the strategic ports, oil, gas and most of the population. In fact the Americans were taken by a surprise per their own words.

KSA does not need to "feel mighty". We are a regional power already and arguably the most influential state in the region or certainly (without a doubt) in the top 3. Depending on what you want to focus on. Economy, political influence, size, wealth, religious clout etc.

Shall we discuss 40 years of Iranian humiliation at the helm of the same US? They have messed up your entire country and do what pleases them. You are left defenseless. So why even mention the US as an Iranian?

You guys should get out of Yemen and let them do what they want with their country. It's a quagmire and it will go on for years.

KSA and the Arab coalition has accomplished almost all of our aims in Yemen. We are in Yemen to restore law and order and help retake the last few remaining areas of Yemen to the legitimate Yemeni government. We are operating in Yemen under a legal UN resolution. There are no 100.000's of Saudi Arabian soldiers in Yemen or other Arab coalition soldiers. Our job is mostly to ensure aerial and naval superiority, help the Yemeni military and allies on the battlefield (if needed) and otherwise secure our almost 2000 km long border with Yemen which is mostly mountainous (almost 4000 meters above sea level). Which is being done.

Yemenis themselves will have to find a long-term solution to their infighting. Something that has been going on for a few decades... However we won't allow Yemen to turn into a hostile entity or another Afghanistan (lawless) or Somalia. Yemen is of great strategic importance for the world and in particular shipping which remains the by far most important trade form and the Red Sea happens to be an area of the world where almost 15% of the world's trade passes through on a daily basis.

It is the "news channel" of choice for all the terrorists of the region. Go figure my friend.

You wrote way to much for my 2 sentence comment. I got bored after the first bit.

Just a few things. You don't need to use military to beat US, pakistan has shown how to play the game with the US and come out on top.

For almost 100 years Saudi has been the single biggest nation on Earth when it comes to energy.... Yet they squandered it on toys and tigers. Saudi could have been a super power in that 100 years but instead.... Just check out r/normaldayinarabia

Pity really, anyone else and they would be producing Nobel prize winners....

Rusty, when did Pakistan invade a neighboring country (that happens to be home to one of the largest gas reserves on the planet) where said country (US) has its largest regional military base (Al-Ubeid)?

Using that logic nobody is better to outmanuver the US than KSA. For explanation see this thread below:

https://defence.pk/pdf/threads/what...sa-china-and-russia-simultaneously-on.622427/

That is nonsense. KSA has the most natural resources in the Muslim world and greatest mineral wealth but that is not enough to be a superpower. Are you kidding? Can you name me a superpower with a population of barely 30 million natives? There is no such country. Do you doubt for a second that this would be the case if we had the population of Pakistan or that of Indonesia (270 million)? Because I don't since we managed with far less in the past to become THE foremost (Rashidun, Umayyad, Abbasid) superpower in the world in said particular era.

Really? Is that why all non-Western natural-rich and 99,9% of all Muslim states have yet to win a single Nobel Prize? What kind of moronic logic is that?

On the other hand the GCC, unlike most resource rich countries that are not Western (non-Muslim too) are COMPLETE AND UTTER SHITHOLES compared to KSA and the GCC. Lightyears behind. Including states aligned with the West and East (Russia and China). Explain that to me.

As for KSA could and would. KSA (in its modern form) is not even 90 years old. Numerous of its predecessor states were imperial powers and some of the largest and most influential empires to date in human history. So the "superpower" part has been done. Being a regional power is more than enough anyway.
