Bahrain revealed on Saturday the busting of a terror cell that was planning attacks on vital establishments, such as the King Fahad Causeway, Ministry of Interior offices and the Saudi Embassy.
Ministry of Interior spokesman Brigadier Tariq Al Hassan told a Press conference that Qatari security authorities called their Bahraini counterparts about the arrest of four Bahrainis who had entered Qatar through Saudi Arabia.
The Qatari authorities found in the possession of the suspects documents and a laptop containing sensitive security information and details about key places and establishments in Bahrain, as well as air tickets to Syria. Significant amounts in US dollars and Iranian toman were also found on them.
The spokesman said that the Qatari authorities questioned the suspects and enquiries in Qatar revealed that they had illegally left Bahrain for Iran through Qatar and Syria after being incited by others. Their mission was to establish a group that would carry out armed terrorist attacks in Bahrain on vital establishments and individuals.
Bahraini authorities received the four suspects on November 4 and charged them with planning terror crimes. Bahrain also arrested a fifth individual on information from the suspects. The five suspects have been referred to the public prosecutor.
