Nice picture. But which is that Turbo-Prop Aircraft in the center? Is that a HS-748 "Hack"?

Judging by the nose, it should be the test aircraft for fighter radars.

Why any other AEWACS when IAF has the option to go for all the Phalcons that they need? apparently, Phalcon is the best AEWACS out there.

- hi low mix
- not being dependent on foreign countries for such an important capability
- not being dependent on foreign vendors that increases the costs for further orders
- safe option for upgrades and modifications, according to what Indian forces needs and not what a foreign country / vendor allows (ask the French / Europeans about upgrades of E-2 and E-3s)
- potential of exports (eventhough very limited)

They tested Tejas's radar on it If I am not wrong which was reported to be 120 km tracking range for 2 msq RCS.

Yep .

The MMR radar is seen installed on the 'Hack' aircraft. This radar is being developed under the LCA 'Tejas' programme and has an intended detection range of 120 km vs a 2 sq.m target. The Hack is offered for other testing purposes as well

Intended and definitely not against a 2m² target but a usual 5m² target. However, that was then and they still got much further today.

I think there is a lack of clarity in which radar LCA is using and what it's actual range is .
