Proposed measures by Cabinet.

The federal cabinet has proposed and also got approval of some recommendations to save electricity.

1- Marriage halls to shut off by 10 at nigh.

Good step IMO.

2- All big billboards and street lights to be replaced with LED's.

This will take alot of time, but will be well worth the effort. Long long long life, excellent brightness, low consumption. Should have been done years ago.

3- Major commercial areas to close after sunset.

Looks surprising, will have a major effect on the life of alot of people, but still, a step needed to conserve electricity. Would it not have been better to keep commercial areas closed during the day?

4- All tube wells used for agro purposes will be supplied uninterrupted electricity from 10 at night to 8 in the morning. More steps to follow.

These all are steps needed, but we should remember , these all are temporary, you cannot keep up with these measures after one or two years. More power generation projects need to be implemented and made, which will take minimum 6 years. But only then can we have a safe future even after 30 years.

3. they dont consume much electricity at day..It wud be better idea to use a higher electricity rate for day time on commercial connection compared to night, that wud make sure they dont waste electricity at day time when there is already sunlight available..

Are you joking?? What you've listed is considered as last priority for the Pakistani Establishment. The first and foremost is building nukes. Dams, Roads, Thermal and Hydro electric power stations, education, medical facilities, trade, employment, poverty eradication, increase in agricultural produce etc etc can wait. That's not important.

And that's why Pakistan is where it is today - because of its paranoia for India which it considers to be an existential threat! Billions are being spent on a non existent threat - good money going down the drain.

Pakistan is rich in hydro resources of energy. According to an estimate the country has enough resources to generate approximately 40,000 mw of hydro-electricity. However, presently it only generates 8000 mw of electricity against an installed capacity of 11,327 mw.

In addition the country can generate electricity with the help of wind and solar energy which has not yet been exploited to meet the energy deficit like in India. Nuclear energy is yet another source of energy and at present PAEC produces 472 mw. It is far less than what PAEC should have been producing to meet the energy deficit.

Losses in transmission and distribution should also be checked as also power theft. It is said that 20% of power is lost due to this. But then, vote bank politics would perhaps prevent any action being taken on this account.

These are long term solutions. In the short term what the OP has mentioned is the only way forward. But then, the million dollar question is: how many would switch off their ACs in this blistering heat?

Except all the BS in you post, this part is where i agree.

Not many will switch off their AC's, which is exactly why the solutions mentioned in the OP have been proposed. Commercial centres, LED lights, strict adherence to timing restrictions, do not force the man to switch off their AC's.

hydro plants are already being built...
the kalabagh dam cud have also been built had their not being political conflicts..

And during the previous military government, ALOT was invested into infrastructure and education and health and social welfare facilities..
